Tasting of the Rare Cask 2nd Batch. A beautiful array of pleasant aromas! On the nose, spicy and woody notes first come to the fore, which then transition into vanilla, tobacco, a bit smoky, leather, cola, and then fruity sweet hints all the way to honey, cinnamon, and apple. On the palate, at a well-chosen 50.5%, it is very powerful and manages to present the spectrum well. Cask notes, dark chocolate, leather, herbs, and tobacco start it off. Then vanilla, cocoa, smoke, and licorice are added, leading back into fruity aromas of cherry, dried fruits, and apple. The long finish is pleasantly spicy and marked by cask notes, roasted aromas, chocolate, and wood. Then after the cola, again this wonderfully sweet fruitiness of honey, apple, and cherry. A terribly tasty rum that can only be compared to a few rums due to its exotic aromatic profile. Unfortunately, the bottle is very expensive. Still, a clear recommendation.

Very thin for 50% and unpleasantly alcoholic and sharp in the mouth. The nose is still kind of okay, but you can't find too many other positive aspects. If this is Don Papa's attempt to make an honest rum, then you can guess what the rest of Don Papa's stuff is.

Mild for the 50.5% on the nose and also in the taste. By one or the other nuance in the taste holds until the end the question of whether not yet worked with additives in small quantities. Nevertheless, the only one in the range that I would call rum. Due to the currently called price, I can only understand the purchase if you need it as a collector's item to complete the series. Due to lack of transparency in terms of storage time additional deductions.

The Don Papa Rare Cask (for me the 2nd batch) is definitely not for beginners or 'Don Papa drinkers', who probably drag the average down here. If you evaluate objectively and consider the Rare Cask alongside its not so well integrated alcohol, you really have a complex and spicy rum here that is completely sugar-free and has nothing to do with the Don Papa mass products. An extensive collection of Christmas spices that develop nicely in the mouth come with red fruits and antique wood.
