"So f-ing good," one taster blurted — and most agree this Panama column-still rum leans sweet and easy. The Oloroso finish is loud: sherry, honey, dried fruit, tobacco and a light smoky touch, with vanilla and cocoa underneath. Several note added sugar and wish the 40% ABV were higher. A soft, rounded sipper more than a serious one.

8:On the nose, we get some nice accents of prune and tobacco in addition to the more classic caramel and vanilla. After airing, more dried fruits come out, orange appears and some roasted notes as a bit ashy impression is felt. This rum is fresh and well balanced on the nose. 8,5:On the palate, the attack is soft and the sugar takes up a lot of space. However, freshness remains, which helps to avoid extreme sweetness. Orange, vanilla and rancio are the dominant aromas here. 8:The finish is fairly long. It is driven by notes of vanilla, followed quickly by tobacco and rancio.. Smoooooth....

Got a sample of this in my second batch from Rum Ratings Tasting Club and participated in the virtual tasting yesterday. The Abuelo XV Oloroso is 15 years old and is first matured in American oak casks to be finished in Oloroso Sherry casks. Overall it’s very sweet, natural or not, read somewhere that a hydrometer test gave 44 gpl. The finish is medium long.

Mmmh, very tasty rum. Again, you can really taste the sherry cask, which is how it should be. A slight sweetness, really excellent. I would also get this rum as a 0.7 bottle. In any case, a recommendation :)

I like the cask finish though I would have loved a higher ABV. Fruity and sweet with an oily palate. I like the light smoky touch in the finish. Price to quality is very good in my mind.

Fantastic sherry rum. Quite complex in flavour and nose. Very tasty and one of my first rum “wow”. It is however shame that sugar is added.

Very strong oloroso influence. Unfortunately, the distillate itself doesn't come through strongly. The sweetness is pleasant and not too overpowering.

Abuelo 15Y Oloroso – 40% Blend of rums aged 15 years in bourbon barrels, with a finish in Oloroso sherry casks. On the nose, caramel jumps out immediately. On the palate, it takes all the space: it's round, soft, very sweet. Yes, there is a bit of added sugar, which explains this easily accessible indulgence. The Oloroso touch is clearly felt, and despite its very sweet side, the whole remains pleasant.

Aged in sherry casks and you can really taste that. Very good and complex rum. Compared to the 12-year, it's a bit less sweet but with much more flavor development. Makes me curious about the other variants as well.

I am just in awe. This is so f#_-ing good. Pardon my french. It is sweet, heavy flavoured. Vanilla, chocolate, cocoa and just a tad bit of spices. Awesome sweet rum. And you can sense the sherry in the medium to long finish.

Traveling thru Panama, I had the chance to take a glass at the bar. It’s very sweet, with a nice touch of honey and emds with Sherry taste. Finish is too short, but overall a great sipper.
