What surprises people first is how tropical this dark Demerara turns: mango and papaya sit on top of the classic Diamond wood, vanilla and a little glue. At 61.4% the heat is there but never sharp, and the palate leans sweet with chocolate and dried fruit. Several tasters call the wood a touch too loud, balanced by a fresh herbal edge and a finish that runs "very very long."

Alcohol quite present, prune and fresh plum, herbs and tropical fruits. Fermented vegetal and old varnished wood. The first mouthfeel is a bit rough, lactic. Then everything falls into place. The wood is too present but the vegetal freshness beautifully balances this rum which otherwise would be very dark. Plum and prune, menthol, vanilla and spices. The finish is very very long, balanced and most aromas remain until the end. The empty glass still exhales even more aromas and complexity. What a beautiful rum!

The Diamond range of Velier comes with an almost unbelievably high quality in the width. The 93 is within this select round even still among the positive outliers and brings the classic Diamond profile with wood, milk, vanilla, bitter notes and spices in perfection. Extremely good.

We had a wonderful pure Diamond tasting yesterday and what a tasting. This one was wonder ful from opening to finish. Lightly sweet on the palate and lightly dry on the finish. Really good rum. A a drop or two of water to release all the flavours!

... The Old Velier Demerara rum is the best thing you can taste in the rum world. The rums were aged in the tropics for several years by mistake and nobody refilled the barrel. The Andel tax was 90% or more, which is why the taste is especially full and intense. Even though it is an extra expensive product, I recommend to taste a rum from this series at least once in your life.

Wow, this blows me away. Exactly my taste. At first a bit sharp, then at the same time a bit sweet with chocolate and dried fruits. It lingers forever in the mouth and more keeps coming. For me, a clear purchase recommendation.

Read full review ›Nose The Bouquet is a Versace dress in liquid aggregate. Incredibly oplulent, vibrant and yet of undeniable elegance. Feels almost like a perfume called Eau de Demerara, coming straight from the jungle. The scent of the finest, freshly cut woods such as sandalwood and cedar alternates in continuous play with lovely blossoms of ylang-ylang, poppy blossom, lilac and myrrh. The whole weave is carried by sweet mangoes, sticky glue and a light coconut blossom note, which absolutely corresponds to the Diamond profile. Palate La grande bellezza! Sweet, super concentrated and oily, the first sip fills the palate with dried mangos, fried cassava slices, tamarind paste and milk chocolate with coconut filling. But there is also a note of Masala Chai in there, giving it an oriental twist. The sweetness is striking! At no point does the 61.4% abv seem dominant or sharp. The tropical maturation has done a perfect job here! It's clearly a Diamond Coffey Still Rum, yet it somehow tastes more refined and sophisticated than the other Velier Diamonds. ғɪɴɪsʜ Long like the red carpet of Cannes, flanked by the abovementioned fine woods and a whole bunch of citrus peels.

A true masterpiece from Guyana, some esters and loads of fruits. From tropical notes to dark prune. On the palate the wood creates some chocolate notes that stay forever after tasting this rum. A must try...
