Near-unanimous love here, and the 1992 vintage is a big reason why. Tar, rubber and solvent lead the way — the classic heavy Caroni "dirt" — but this one carries real fruit alongside it: mango, exotic fruit, caramelised nuts. At 61.2% the alcohol sits perfectly integrated, oily and long, with a menthol-and-spice finish that just won't quit. Dirty, powerful and complex all at once.

Epic Velier Caroni Tasting 2023: Excellent representative of the tropical Caronis. Typical Caroni HTR notes full of rubber and tar, sweetness, wood, spiciness - further evidence of the excellent 1992 vintage.

An extraordinary Caroni with intense tar, rubber, and oil notes, accompanied by dark fruits, leather, and earthy tones. Despite its power, it feels surprisingly harmonious and reveals even more complexity with every minute in the glass. Deep, dirty, complex – an impressive distillate for fans of the classic heavy Caroni style.

A superb Caroni, more gourmand than the High Proof, which makes it a little better! The nose is magnificent, with great complexity! The palate is fresh, despite the years of ageing. Very long finish.

A true Caroni Masterclass. On the nose, there's the typical heavy profile of tar, rubber, menthol, leather and spices, but exotic fruit and citrus add an exquisite sweetness to the olfactory profile, to which solvents and a touch of caramel are added for a complete, complex and intense result. The palate is divine, perfectly combining the smoky, solvent and hydrocarbon profile on one side with the fruit and caramel sweetness on the other. It's oily, dirty, but also powerful, subtle and very complex. The finish is endless, with spicy aromas, tar, caramel, menthol and tropical fruit. A true Trinidad gem.

Today the higher proof cow was sent into the race. Profile-wise not really comparable to its twin brother. Clearly spicier, less fruity. Due to the higher alcohol content the finish is a bit longer. Very tasty, I would still prefer the 55%.

Traditional Caroni taste is dropping to SBS Beast in the end ... Caroni is a distillery from Trinidad, producing at its peak a rum that was added in a 1:10 ratio to naval blends. It was too strong and strange to be pleasant on the tongue. In 2000 the distillery ended production and was closed. Only in 2010 did tasters appear who liked the rum precisely for its special taste. And interest grew. Caroni belongs to the category of rums "you need to try before you die." I recommend it, Caroni is truly a unique rum.

What an epic evening with flight after flight that were indescribable. I'll spare myself any individual commentary on this because I'm sometimes lost for words. Many thanks to Jakob. All in all, as you can see from the ratings, they were all excellent and only differed in nuances. All top level 🤤😋

In the 1992 space my favorite so far. More fruit (mango) versus the hangars while not scaling back too much in the lovely dirt of the 1992.

For me... by far the best of the Caroni! With its little sister reduced... Having had the chance to taste more than 8/10 of the Caroni releases... "la vache" will always come out on top.
