Here's the surprise: this is an agricole, but the fruit sits way back and the wood does the talking. Fourteen years in the cask left it dark, dry and peppery, with cherry and burnt sugar peeking through, plus tobacco and leather. One taster compared the dry, orangey side to old Armagnac. The 55% is folded in so well you barely notice it.

Bielle really knows how to raise the bar and this pick by Lmdw is spot on. Fruity and well balanced and the ABV is very well integrated. The finish is like forever and has a velvety feel to it. The empty glass is really nice as well.

Bielle 2001 No. 6 of 12 This bottling has so far the most intense wood note. Almost borderline... but still okay. Friends of dark spicy Agricoles will get their money's worth here. The fruit is in a defensive position and barely noticeable.

And the next great Bielle. I find this one a bit different, somehow a bit darker and spicier. I definitely notice pepper here, also (of course) wood and a bit of caramel. Very tasty.

Rhum Bielle LMDW 2001 X-Tasting: A unique set Daniel has dug up here. Over time this rum becomes more complex, the aromas more intense. You can feel like sitting with the glass forever and discover new aromas! This one is even more layered than the samples before with additional leather, tobacco and cherry. Alcohol perfectly integrated!

"Big Bielle 2001 Cross-Tasting": again a bit sweeter on the nose and especially more Agricole-like😄 Cherry - bakery cherry pockets were my first association. Buttery puff pastry and cherry jam. A decent amount of wood but not too dominant, subtle acidity and pleasant tannins on the finish. Not an over-highlight in the range but still very high quality.

Epic BIELLE 2001 Tasting. A great vintage, the set was consistently of high quality. Only RX5741 and RX4918 were a bit too woody/bitter for me. There was also a clear winner, the cask selected by Kirsch was for me the most intense, most harmonious. Here was a perfect mix of wood, fruit and spices. The blend is also great, but at 45% it suffers a bit weakly on the palate. Overall I think the highest quality set I've tasted and I believe you will never get one like this again.

I have trouble identifying the Bielle touch and this one won't help me because I found it quite different from what I know. Hyper complex, hyper evolving, slightly bitter wood. Nice sweetness. Also citrus. Then notes of tobacco and leather. Intense but not aggressive. Top.

Its nose is very pleasant on the woodiness. It has a perfect softness on the cherry. We are far, very far, from the very concentrated and expressive nose of the La Mauny 2006 described yesterday. Here it is more subtle, you have to linger longer, it is closed, you have to let it air to express itself, but the result is frankly top. On the palate the alcohol is perfectly integrated, it is rich and concentrated. Unlike the nose, here it is ultra expressive and concentrated. The attack is woody but the cherry quickly takes its rightful place! It is an astonishing indulgence.

Thanks Daniel for this killer split! All rums seem to be at a very high level. I taste some fruit, especially orange, tannins and spices from the cask, very light grassy notes of the agricole and a hint of mint. The whole thing is rather dry, with low sweetness, which does not bother. Overall the profile reminds me a bit of old Armagnacs, in a positive sense. Alcohol integration is great. Of the three samples tasted, this one reminds me most of Armagnacs, maybe because the fruitiness of the orange is more in the background.
