What surprises people is how thin this "premium" name drinks: it's a light, sweet Trinidad column rum leaning hard on vanilla and caramel, with raisin, honey and a touch of oak underneath. Several tasters like it neat with a rock or two, but plenty find it too simple and a bit sharp — and it tastes noticeably sweetened. Many end up mixing it instead.

Amazingly good. Nose full of Trinidad. Very light taste, of course. I think it's only moderately suitable for beginners, as you'd expect something pleasantly sweet in this price segment. The TDL aromas come through well, almost herbal/tar. I am very positively surprised.

A fairly decent rum at the price tag. The nose is a bit astringent in the beginning but then turns fruity with vanilla and caramel. The palate is warm and sweet with fruits, oak tannins and spices. The finish is medium long and sweet with oak and fruits. I will try to experiment with this rum in mixers.

The basic rum in Angostura's range, this juice offers more as it is tasted. The nose is fairly closed, stuck between spices (nutmeg, vanilla), barrel wood, caramel and raisin. Pear comes through subtly, but doesn't leave the best olfactory impression. The profile gains in flavor once on the palate. The markers remain the same (spices, caramel, dried fruit and light oak), but the alcoholic and medicinal touch on menthol lends a little charm to this classic British rum profile. The alcohol is a little more noticeable as a result, but it accompanies the overall profile well. The finish is of good quality, a little drier and more empyreumatic than the rest of the profile would suggest. Tobacco, licorice, roasted and spicy notes dominate in the face of caramel and dried fruit, which is not unpleasant. A rum that should serve as an introduction to more complex things, or that is destined to end up in mixology.

07.2024 First impression: lively, fruity, aromatic Nose: beautiful blend of fruit, honey, vanilla and a few roasted aromas and hints of esters Palate: fresh and full-bodied, everything that makes rum interesting, complex Finish: now the stronger aroma fraction pushes forward, short reverberation Overall impression: very nice after-work sipper for successful days I haven't had the 1919 in my glass for a long time and I'm delighted to have rediscovered it. In the middle of fruity Jamaicans and spicy Spaniards. I'll put it back on the shelf when it runs out. 2018 Spicy, dry Trinidadian with very present wood and vanilla notes. One of my first rums that I like to pour again every few years, even if my preferences have changed.

Pleasant nose of grape/wine and dried fruit, plus dark toasty aromas (baked apple, cocoa) that also remind me a bit of leather. Similarities to an Agricole are there. In the mouth, the nose continues, with sweetness, raisins, chocolate and spices. Alcohol spiciness is clearly noticeable. For the price, this is perfectly fine.

Retasting after 18YO single cask tdl from Albert Michler: Long Story short this one is sweeter, tastier, not sure how much sugar was added since it seems a completely different rum than its 18YO SC brother. But I like this one more, the older one has nothing to offer for me in terms of 👃 or 👅. Retasting after Cane Island Trinidad 8YO: The color is lighter than CI, fainter. 👃 is also very different, this one is sweeter, not by much but sweeter, CI was kind of harsh, not balanced, mostly oak and alcohol and weirdly enough- natural gas. 👅 is a different story- very similar to the point I cannot tell the difference but it comes up in the aftertaste- 1919 is a little less sweet than CI with more woody notes in the main body. If I had to decide between the two, I would go with CI. I can even feel more alcohol in this one insoite the CI is a little bit higher in ABV. Therefore, I need to degrade the rating for this one significantly. /// The smell is kind of neutral for me I cannot sense anything particular in it other than the characteristic smell of rum, maybe a pineapple? I was worried after that but palate is awesome it is sweet, vanilla, caramel, fruity with soft and oily touch on the tongue. It is soft and light but the taste is prominent. Could be much better without the dilution...

A completely normal average rum. I think it tastes relatively sweet. However, I can't really taste many flavors. No short finish either. Nothing special but a solid rum.

A subtle nose, vanilla and caramel with a hint of baked apples and old wood. Very round. The palate is slightly more flavourful than the nose would suggest. Less fruity, more deeper notes of leather and honey. The finish is short. A touch bitter. There's a nice hazelnut note. Overall, a bit thin but not unpleasant.
