🚨 One of the most extreme rums I know. Pungent, meaty, ester, fermented and a hint of 'herring'. 😳 Not for the faint-hearted. On the palate then a great spiciness and sweetness. A real experience!

Phew - you do not know at first how to evaluate the rum. Immediately after pouring, you can still something spices and dried fruit warnehmen. Then, however, a bad smell of sulfur comes through directly. Since one must then already overcome for a taste test. 39 points, because for me not drinkable.

24.07.2025 Found this nice sample and still find it pretty good. --------------- A pretty good Long Pond. Super nice ester level that explode on your palate. I rested it for 20 minutes before having a go at it. But I could smell the glass from my couch. Nicely balanced yet warm on the palate with a super long finish.

One of the most distinctive rums to come out in recent years! The nose is a riot of fermented fruit at the lomite of rot, glue and some citrus with a nice hint of the cask! When you taste it it is both brutal and elegant where red fruits and berries appear! The brand of long pond can be felt and fully recognized! A rollercoaster rum not for everyone! I love it!

This one is very intense on the nose. With quite some dirt to it. Here you have meaty and barbecue notes. There is vinegar as well as some olives. Quite outstanding vs. the other TECAs in the tasting. On the palate also very intense with roasted notes, some wood, plenty of esters some fruits and again barbecue smoke. Intense and outstanding. With some time to breath, I quite like it.

I think the NRJ TECA 2003 is about the most difficult rum I've ever had the privilege to rate. The Mark TECA is legendary and the LP TECA 2005 from HV is clearly the top dog. You either love it or hate it. I was until now clearly in the second camp, 39 points🥶 and tail light. Tip and sample from Bonn (Thanks!), he should, the longer the bottle is open, the better.👍The nose is now a lot more solid than I remember. Wood, leather, toasted. Some estery, but pleasant. Round and balanced. Complex it is not. The dead dog on the side of the road is still very easy to smell, but makes the rum interesting. 😅In the mouth, then the post goes off. Woody, furry, pungent on one side, warm and full on the other. A rum that is more felt than tasted. The finish is short, wood and musty.The second time I like the rum much better, but it has (in this case fortunately) lost some complexity.

A great product. Funkiness, intensity, character and a unique bouquet with great esters, meat and fish. The nose is exceptionally fruity and complex and you can partially recognize what to expect in the mouth. The fruity esters are a delight. In the mouth, intense sweetness, tropical fruits and varnish are immediately added. Warm, pleasing and fleshy, the aromas come together and merge into bread crust and leather. Mineral undertones and salt play perfectly with herbal tones. The finish is long, fruity, spicy and again very complex. The bottle price is quite high, but the purchase was still worth it. Long Pond is really a house number, a must for all those who love Jamaicarum.

Tasted after the TECA 2007 NRJ and then the TECA 2005 Velier. The nose seems less rich than the previous two. Still full of esters. The wood is more present. But it seems less complex and less good. On the palate, a pleasant surprise! Powerful, very woody. Then fruit takes its place. The finish remains spicy. From start to finish, there's a sensation of sweet indulgence. It's surprisingly complemented by a touch of saltiness. For me, this is what makes the difference with the 2007 from the same series. The finish is very long. I think you can still taste it after brushing your teeth. The rum is then heavier, with wood and leather. The salty sensation is even more present. Above 2007. Below 2005. Super rum. Very good indeed. Edit: tasted it several times since and I really love its extreme character and endless length. Even after tasting a lot of things, this TECA still leaves me with a crazy impression.

Crazy. At first (very briefly!) passion fruit, overripe sweet bananas, and vanilla, and after a few minutes it always shifts to Maggi, bacon, and miso paste. Really quite extreme on the nose! 😅 On the palate, first a full blast of Maggi, fermented fruit, and saltiness... But also an intense caramel note like honey bananas and Basque cheesecake, then subtle fruit notes like papaya and mandarin come through in the background, along with some dark chocolate. But in the finish, this salty fermented aroma comes back again, which I would now describe more as miso paste after 3 years. Along with dried dates, sun-dried tomatoes, and salted caramel. Crazy! Definitely not for every day, but really for when you want to challenge your taste buds properly! 😅 My rating actually jumps from 4.9 to 8.3 after 3 years! 😅 I've rarely experienced more umami in a rum!

Mirco's blind tasting TECA/TECC No.7: Another bottling from NRJ...their Long Pond's are just awesome. With this one I particularly like the pronounced passion fruit note with a hint of marijuana and sourness. Certainly not everyone's taste, but it's mine.

Sensational. Awesome. Unique. This TECA is a knockout. This is already evident when entering the tasting ... so many associations that are not even stored in the app 😂 High Ester from Long Pond, which, in addition to the classic profile (fruit, ester, curry green, leather, wood), also goes into the meaty, mushroomy, savory, musty and grenadic. But not nearly as bad as some reviews make it out to be. For me, it is blatantly undervalued on average. A little more complicated than others in the NRJ range, but still a real cracker 🧨

A rich, intensely aromatic Long Pond. The nose begins with a touch of glue, before letting an anthology of tropical fruits embalm the nostrils: banana, pineapple, lime and orange are very present, but it's the passion fruit, almost stewed, that makes the difference here. Phenolic and fermented notes rub shoulders with gourmet spices (baked apple, vanilla) and subtle woodiness. A very engaging nose. The attack on the palate is heavy, funky and generous. Passion fruit returns with that sweet fruity touch already so pleasant on the nose. Esters, solvents, glue and rubber form a kind of chemical mix that works well on the palate with exotic fruit, barrel influence and spicy flavors, quite strong here. Very opulent, astringent and oily, this is a rough-and-ready rum that nevertheless shows superb integration of the alcohol. The long, lingering finish explodes with fermented fruit, but also reveals leathery bitterness, less common empyreumatic notes (smoky, roasted) and a hint of salt. The profile is extreme, but extremely good in every way. A superb Long Pond.

Oh the so feared TECA 2003..sooo long I’ve wanted to try this one..and thanks to Mto75, I can finally taste this rotten beast. The nose is quite promising..all the decadent flavors are there..rotten fruits, overcooked greasy meat with a bunch of rocks in it, with a touch of vanilla and wood to messing up the flavor profile! The palate is a rollecoaster: starts decently sweet, with anice and vanilla, than rapidly turns into savory meat and again into rotten grilled pineapple, all with a very pronounced astringency. The finish remains savory, with wood and leather. Even if the sample was prepared after the bottle was already opened, this is truly a challenge for the rum lover. Although, gotta say that the oxidation makes it more manageable and pleasant! All in all, the TECC is my favorite!

My favorite metal-bar in Copenhagen, which has a wide variety of whisky, finds some good stuff once in a while. Very high ester in the nose with hints of overripe and tropical fruits. In the notes it's also ester-y, with a fruity and leather like flavor. I would have liked the taste to continue for longer, as I felt it got rather "flat" in the end

I approached this rum skeptically but was positively surprised! The nose totally reminds me of green sour apple rings, combined with vanilla, many other fruits, heavily fermented, sharply vinegary. There's also wood and spice. On the palate, mercilessly dry, bitter, salty, sour, sharp. Not easy drinking, everything tightens up. The finish surprisingly has candied caramel, delicious apple again, and some "aftershocks" from the mouthfeel. Something special and absolutely not for beginners!

I've had it in my glass several times now and still haven't rated it, there's no such thing 😬 On the nose, this austere/pithy note that is difficult to categorize. You can actually detect a hint of it in the 2007 TECA and also in the TECC, but it's much less pronounced. I like it very much despite these extreme aromas - or perhaps because of them - but for me it falls short of the other bottlings in the series.

Wow - even minutes after the first sip I still have passion fruit on the palate. Esters and overripe tropical fruits (some of which verge on moldy) harmonize perfectly together. This rum is really fun! Alcohol perfectly integrated.

The smell reminded me of RX18474: high esters and sherry. It has a sour/tart note (passion fuity) to it and also something meaty. It also reminds me of a smoky whisky (don’t ask me which one) I once had in my glass. It’s an interesting experiment, but not your everyday supper, that’s for sure.

I am too weak for this rum from the fresh bottle. Everything tightens up, the rum is unsuitable for drinking. In direct comparison with a bottle that has been open for 4 years, a completely different picture: beautiful, round TECA with smooth wood sounds. Fresh: 65 points Opened: 90 points

The aroma is incredibly intense and pungent. It’s not completely unlikeable, but it’s extremely medicinal and industrial as a result. This is accompanied by only the strongest of supporting aromas: campfire smoked meats, crushed allspice, fish paste, hoisin sauce and perhaps a hint of passionfruit. Make no mistake, this is not a fruity nor accessible rum whatsoever. Whoever made this definitely knew what they were doing as they cranked up all dials to the maximum setting. Frankly, I’m not entirely unconvinced this wasn’t created by a witch in a large cauldron. My initial reaction to the delivery on the palate was much akin to Harry, Ron and Hermione’s reactions to drinking the chunky bathroom-brewed polyjuice potion for the first time in The Chamber of Secrets. It’s so indescribably intense and overpowering. First waves of meat gone off -even roadkill came to mind- and rotten fruit. Then a mixture of potent flavours such as maggi, morels, olive brine and sour cream, shadowed by glue stick and rubber; and intersected with more accessible vanillabean, reduced cola, passionfruit, and currants. The finish is extremely long and flavourful with -again- a unique combination of aromas. Hours (!) later I could still taste mushroom soup, cured meats and hoisin sauce. An incredible experience, not for the faint of heart, but personally I think this has strayed too far from the light and has gone into territory a little too crazy for my liking. I find this difficult to score. It’s so overpowering it strong-arms the senses into submission. In that sense an entire bottle would be undrinkable to me. However I do maintain that this is an exceptional experience you have to try atleast once.

And again an extreme experience, mixing rotten tropical fruit (pineapple, passion fruit) with glue, leather and a number of other goodies. The amount of esters is high, however I definitely recommend tasting it, it will broaden your horizons.

After tasting the National Rums of Jamaica, we attack the famous TECA mark. 👃 Phew! The esters first deliver overripe, almost rotten tropical fruit. Then comes a dominance of surreal smells; brine, black olive tapenade, little onions in jars, vegetable broth (fennel), fermented vegetable juices, cured meats, herrings, lots of herrings 😳 in the background, medicinal notes, solvents, glue. Really crazy nose 😋 We find everything that makes the nose crazy. Lively esters, glue, solvents, old perfumes, leather, lots of salt, spices, burnt barrel, rotten vegetables, fennel, brine, black olives. Some overripe tropical fruit (pineapple, jackfruit) in the background. Extremely sapid, intense, extravagant palate. I love it. ⛳ Little chillies, lively, cube of overripe pineapple, fermented, tangy, liquorice freshness. The tropical cask gives it all it's got; umami, perspiration, wood-fired meat smoke, cured meats, leather. Crazy to the core. 💡 With time, aeration and an awful lot of other high esters tasted since, I'm raising it 2pts to 90. A Rum that offers a true sensory experience.

A profile like no other. It is a bit extreme indeed. At first a bit metallic, fermented fish, but after a while i get this flowery and sweet layer. The alcohol is very well integrated, it bites less than 05 STCE which I had side by side.

Very lovely delicious long pond. Not a high end LP but a good one. A lot of ester in the nose paired with trop. fruits and overripe fruits and wood. In mouth spicy but harmonious. The finish is quite long and smooth with some notes of leather and salt. The alcohol could be integrated better. The initial price tag was quite good, now it’s to expensive

One of the weirdest rums I've ever tried and liked. On the nose, fruity and floral along with that rotting note that we'll find all along the tasting. Drink side is not that aggressive in terms of alcool and with a profile consistent with the nose. Also, there are some vinagre notes that adds pleasantly and will last through the neverending aftertaste. You can still perceive it the morning after.

crass number! 😳 In this high-Ester TECA dominate not the 'good' fruit-ester combinations but the 'bad' sulfur and vinegar. On the nose I have metallic notes, vinegar and gravy. Only sparsely come fruit notes and caramel. On the palate even more violent: the initial sweetness quickly gives way to vinegar, iodine, sulfur. In the finish celery and smoky bacon. An interesting experience to have tasted the other end of the ester palette for once, but definitely not a drinking pleasure!

A simply exceptional rum. On the nose, the woody and fruity notes are very present. On the palate, the leather slightly takes over but the yellow fruits are very present. A few esters to subtly enhance everything, I'm a fan.

I expected something very intense but in reality it is finer and more balanced than I thought. Undeniably Jamaican, I prefer the recent STCE versions. Note: it was the bottom of the bottle. Maybe it was oxidized?

Fruity, meaty, fermented on the nose. Funky stuff! On the palate quite crazy but awesome. A heavy sweetness intertwined with rotting and fermented fruits, plus rich umami and a slight saltiness, somewhat astringent. I can understand why this rum polarizes, but I find it pretty awesome. In the finish, a slight bacon smoky note. Profile-wise definitely one of the most unusual rums I've tried so far, funk level comparable to the craziness of certain Clairin. I really like it.

Very meaty and dirty. I still enjoy it as Long Pond fan, but the expectations were higher. I feel like this one is a out of balance and misses complexity. Nevertheless very unique and must try rum if you dare... I will need to try this one again after a few warm-up rums.

Nose: Vinegar, rubber, tar, cheese and onion crisps, plum, lime, varnish, pineapple, smokey bacon, medicinal Mouth: Brown sugar, pineapple, black pepper, bubblegum, passion fruit, lime, rubber, anise, nectarine, strawberry, raspberry Finish: Very pungent initial burst of flavour that ends quite soon but with a lingering light burn for a medium finish It really doesn't get funkier than this. This is one of the most perplexing rums I've ever had. It has this incredibly pungent almost meatiness to it. It's so strong that it takes a while to actually figure out what is going on. It is absolutely not for the faint-hearted. But is it enjoyable? Well yes, definitely, but it's not exactly something you can sit down after a long day to sip and relax with, because it's so intrusive. I'm not even sure my tasting notes can do it justice since it is so outlandish and unlike any other Jamaican rum I've had. It's an absolute warrior in the high ester realm.

To date, one of my favorites! In the glass it is beautifully colored and very viscous. On the nose an explosion of aromas with well-integrated alcohol right away and with time it gets better and better. The palate is a bomb of flavors and esters with alcohol always perfectly integrated and non-invasive! The finish is long and leaves the palate with incredible flavor! I would drink it every day, I am in love with it! To my taste, I appreciate it much more than the 2007 TECA. P.S.: taste is purely personal and very subjective.

What a crazy nose! A brief butcher shop association pops up: raw, cold meat and pepper salami are perceived. Sweat!!! – yes, you read that right – sweat, like you find it after a soccer game in the locker room. Old heat-melted gummy bears and esters, similar to Monymusk 1997 batch. On the other side of the nose, we also find sweet and fruitier aromas, led by overripe papayas. The fruitiness is not quite as pronounced as in the Cambridge and acidity is hardly found here either. But it is somewhat stronger on the palate. The associations from the nose are fully found on the palate as well, plus the taste of rotting fruit and the association of organic waste. The finish is exceptionally long and stays on the tongue with dryness and woody aromas. If any of these four rums deserves the title "divider," it is definitely the TECA!

Taste sharp, dark honey, a bit musty. Sharp, short, not unpleasant aftertaste. A bit astringent, but that disappears after a short breathing. One gets the impression that palate and tongue stick together. Previously tasted two Hampdens (RX 6296 and 14100). Compared to those, this one seems heavier with more body. Comparison Florette with Säbel. With some breathing and hand warmth, it develops even more body and the mustiness disappears! Very good!

Extreme rum, probably unique in its variety of aromas. Meat, mushroom, umami and a bit of mustiness meet fermented fruit, orange-flavored effervescent tablet and some pineapple. It won't be my preferred TECA, but the longer it rested, the more the off-putting notes faded into the background and it became noticeably smoother.
