Velier Caroni Old Legend Trinidad Rum 1985

Caronis Velier 1985 tasting. A nose of caramel, rubber and tar with dark, sweet flavors, tropical fruit, baked banana and baked apple. The first sensation is a little acqueous and one senses dilution. But everything returns to normal fairly quickly as the mouth fills with slightly bitter aromas of bicycle tires, fruit and pastries. Elegant yet punchy. The finish is not so long (here too, the reduction makes itself felt) for a Caroni, but once again on elegance. Most of the aromas disappear fairly quickly, but the caramel and bicycle tire remain almost indefinitely. The empty glass is superb, further proof of the wrong side of the reduction. This rum was intended to be bottled at Caroni in bottles stamped "Legend 2000".

A true legend fully aged when the distillery was active. A surprsing rum with a sweet profile (coconut, pastries, molasses, caramel, vanilla). Despite a significant reduction, it is quite expressive. Very nice rum !

A particularly strange profile for a Caroni. The nose is subdued, very sweet and reminiscent of Barbados, with notes of brown sugar, vanilla and spices, pastries, hazelnut and coconut. This unusual sweetness is almost disturbing, surely due to the relatively low alcohol content. The attack on the palate continues in this very light, fine vein. There's a sweet, pastry-like quality to the palate, with brown sugar, butterscotch, honey, molasses and coconut, woody notes that turn to chocolate, coffee and hazelnut, as well as vanilla and nutmeg for spice. There's a tiny influence of petroleum notes on the palate, which fades as quickly as it comes. The alcohol is well integrated, but the sweetness spoils the profile a little. The finish is relatively thin, still reminiscent of Foursquare with butterscotch, coconut, hazelnut, vanilla, chocolate and light oak. Spices, brown sugar and candied fruit finish off this extremely sweet Trinidad profile, which is as surprising as it is puzzling. The initiative is commendable, but the end result is frustrating.

Relaxed sipper with lots of vanilla and nut. A touch of acidity on the palate.

14.04.2012 First visit to the Whisky.dk event after returning to Denmark after first living 3 years in Upplands Väsby, Sweden and then 7 years in Shanghai, China. Got back together with old friends to have a nice weekend. Notes. Medium dark in colour. Nose: wood, light coconut, solvent, sweetbread. Palate: fresh, oily, wood, coconut, light, vanilla. Finish: medium to long, spice, wood, sweet.

Caroni 85 Crosstasting This is a really elegant Caroni that has a nose of an caramelized apple baked in a really old wood stove. Some Nut and fruit and rather young wood. On the palate there is a lot of wheel tubing, fruit and caramel. it finishes wih a touch of sweet white bread, could be longer and could be more pungent. Still a nice experience.

Too weak, low expressive for Caroni ... Caroni je destilerie z Trinidadu, produkujici v dobe sve nejvetsi slavy rum, ktery se pridaval v pomeru 1:10 do namornickeho blendu. Byl totiz moc vyrazny a divny nez aby byl prijemny na jazyku. V roce 2000 destilerka skoncila s produkci a byla uzavrena. Az v roce 2010 se objevili degustatori, kteri si rum oblibili prave pro jeho specialni chut. A zajem rostl. Caroni patri do kategorie rumu "you need to try before you die". Doporucuji, Caroni je opravdu unikatni rum.

Svincany caroni tasting 19.12.2024 vůně 9,5/10 ale chuť tak nějak chybí, ale kouř v chuti je fajn a závěr přijemný.
