Most tasters land in the same place: a proper Caroni that ticks every box without topping the pile. Expect the "workshop" signature — tar, rubber, leather, diesel — cut with menthol, orange peel and roasted oak. The oily body and 55% carry well once rested. A few find it a touch teary or short on the finish, and one plainly wrote "well…no!" It's Caroni through and through.

I had heard mixed opinions about this Caroni but I found it sublime! I really like the dirty side it has throughout the tasting! Rich and intense in flavors with an endless finish! My favorite Caroni 2000!

Good Caroni with the typical profile you expect. Dirty with diesel, rubber, and woody notes but also a bit of menthol in the finish. Still, not a Caroni that stands out from the crowd, but also not from the 2000 vintage. Good and pleasant (almost identical to the US bottling).

A very smooth and balanced Caroni. The nose is very focused on sweetness, reminiscent of some lighter and sweeter Caronis. You find caramel candy, hints of hazelnut, pastry, but also menthol, oak, and spices that proliferate in the nostrils (cinnamon, chili, pepper, vanilla) alongside the typical hydrocarbon and rubber notes of the house. A very indulgent and tempting profile. On the palate, it’s an oily and intense rum, both sweet and salty, combining petrol notes with the sweetness of caramel, hazelnut, and milk chocolate. There’s a nice mix of spices and beautiful woody and smoky (empyreumatic) notes that sneak into the palate. The fruits are practically absent, but the sweetness of the profile balances the palate well. The alcohol is well integrated. The finish is relatively long, warm, and spicy. Hazelnut and smoky notes come back strongly with the petrol aromas, menthol, and oak. Caramel and chocolate (especially dark) give that little sweet twist that fits perfectly with the rest of the profile. A superb Caroni, accessible but very complete and dangerously easy to drink.

Great bottling. A little lighter and less heavy than other Caroni. But it's extremely good. Mixture of menthol and tropical fruits, vanilla, slightly Spanish, yet very present and strong in taste, wonderful balance. Great oily mouthfeel, sits really nicely in the throat. Acts like a blend of Caroni and subtle TDL components. What some 2003 TDL vintages bring to Caroni aromas, this bottling brings the opposite for me.

Kirsch Cruise 2024 Berlin For me, a Caroni as it should be. It has everything you would expect. The great dirty notes that I like so much about this profile. More on the dirty side than on the fruity side. Overall nicely complex with well integrated alcohol. The finish could be a little longer.

in addition to the typical Caroni notes also much what you can pick up at the Christmas market: Orange, cloves, cinnamon, plus a certain menthol freshness. A little more ABV might have unleashed a little more power.

Tasting date 07.08.2026 with Mr. Daniel Jungberg. RX5769 Velier Caroni 2000. Nose: Dirty rubber, tar and diesel, workshop, black tee. Dried fruits. Mouth: Dried fruits like dates and raisins, black tee, rubber and tar, light diesel / petrol. Light fruity with pear. Well balanced with complexity, classic semi light Caroni. Residual tast are industrial rubber and tar notes. Cigar tobacco, light diesel. Dried fruits, raisins and prunes, medicinal, salty caramel, smoky notes. Light chocolate, balanced woody notes. “Needy glass” recommends minimum 3 to 4 cl. The glass: Oak cask, sour cigar tobacco. Tasting “In the cave”

This is a nice car one with all the lovely Caroni notes and then some. Lightly fruity and complex with an oily palate. The roasted wood and ABV are nicely integrated once rested. Draws nice curtains in the glass. The empty glass is really nice and there's a light smoky note.

Almost a typical Caroni on the nose and full of promise... but then it loses a lot on the palate... no Caroni note really stands out clearly... everything is served a little, but not convincingly! The finish is also relatively short!

Tasted yesterday on the brilliant Spree Ship Rum Tour in front of the GRF alongside many others. Great dirty-sweet nose and also a balanced, fully aromatic Caroni on the palate, where I don't miss anything. Could even hold its own next to the Last with less mint and a little more burnt plastic.

On the nose, you quickly recognize that this is Velier, dominated by rubber, solvents in the background and fruit. On the palate too! Caroni markers are clearly present. A persistent smoke/meatiness that is replaced by the typical tar and rubber. And the rubber is still very much present the next morning!

... Caroni is a distillery from Trinidad, producing at the time of its greatest glory rum, which was added at a ratio of 1:10 to the naval blend. It was too strong and strange to be pleasant on the tongue. In 2000, the distillery ceased production and closed. Only in 2010 did tasters appear who took a liking to the rum because of its special taste. And the interest grew. Caroni belongs to the category of "you need to try before you die" rums. I recommend it, Caroni is a truly unique rum.

#1826 14-08-2026 - Rate 9.0 No meeting in the club without at least one Caroni. This evening we closed with this 17 year old HTR at 55% ABV. Really liked the nose a lot. And the tast was also amazing. But the low ABV makes the taste fate away to quick. Good but not among the best

It tasted good to me. I quite like the 2000 vintage. Dirty with less heavy sweetness and gasoline in it. I also like the slightly charred ash note in the finish. Not as good as some single casks of the vintage but definitely very good.

Tasting together with F. Kraemmer. On 07/08/2026. Nose on an adventure👃: I sense all the fantastic Caroni notes like tar, gunpowder, diesel, rubber, etc. But there are also lots of dried fruits hiding! Dates, raisins, and I also smell yellow mirabelle! There's light peach and prune! It's "dirty" and complex! Tongue on an adventure 🥃: I taste a surprising Caroni. Of course, all the classic notes a good Caroni should have are there, but it also has a fantastic sweetness! There's pear, yellow mirabelle. The tail of the story💫: medium-long finish with all the classic "I'll knock your legs out" notes, but here I also sense something salty and some sweetness I can't place. There's light milk chocolate. It also gives me an earthy feeling (positively meant), and it's a Caroni that becomes clearer the longer it stays in the glass! World-class tasting and a big thanks to F. Kraemmer for the pleasure! 🫡

Yes! I found myself a match :D Really thick, masculine and has a very interesting ruberry undertone which stands out. I see lot of you put orange peel from the fruity notes, but I would rather go for kumquat.

A tasty Caroni that leans more on the roasted, fiery side. Enjoyed by the fireplace, its aromas fit perfectly. I associate it with an old leather armchair and warm, roasted oak wood. There are dried spices and a bit of cigar too. Tasty but not outstanding.
