Most tasters land around 9/10 here, though a few wish it hit harder. It's a 20-year Martinique agricole that smells of hay, leather, vanilla and old wood, then turns to dried fruit, prune, cherry and a little chocolate. The 40% keeps the alcohol almost invisible — one reviewer said it's "barely noticed." Complex and rounded, if a touch gentle for some.

I wouldn't say this is a watered down rum, but it's extremely well balanced and well rounded and in a tasting this should take spot one. Fruity and nice wood well balanced with spices. The alcohol is barely noticed.

Von diesem La Filibuste bin ich aber mal so richtig angetan…. Diese Nase ist schon so betörend…neben Leder, Holz und Schokolade erscheinen herrliche Fruchtnoten von dunkelroten Kirschen und Rosinen Am Gaumen dann eine wahre Aromenexplosion…elegant, geschmeidig mit Aromen von Holz, Vanille, Schokolade, getrockneten Früchten und und…für nur 40 % einfach unglaublich. Und diese feinen Aromen setzen sich in einem langen immer dunkler werdenden Abgang fort. Erstklassig

Great complexity. As usual for the Flibuste bottlings with a rich sweetness full of vanilla sugar, chocolate and hazelnut. In addition, pointed spicy aromas, wood influence, opulent fruit notes of cherry and dried fruit; a great compote of multi-layered, yet harmonious flavors, which has a lot of sweetness. Delicious!

Im Glas mal wieder einen guten La Flibuste von 1999 gehabt. Obwohl ich wirklich kein wahrlicher Fan von Agricoles bin, muss ich schon zugestehen, das dieser sehr komplex und lecker ist. Bin positiv überrascht.

Aroma: grassy, hay, leather, rubbery. No alcohol buzz. The nose is grassy, and in the second glass, the sourness of the plum among the nuts is felt. A green fruit decoction. Complexity. There are some esters, but the grassy flavors overpower them. The aroma explodes in a way that belies the 40 proof. Taste: Same as in the aroma: hay, grass, leather, etc. It's complex, but clean and neat. Good balance, except for the lack of intensity. Very slightly sweet. The finish is funky. The oak is buried in the other flavors and there's a hint of green grapes. My friend who shared it with me detected a hint of green juice. Mouthfeel: Very smooth, almost as if there is no alcohol. The tropical fruit comes through only at the end. The flavor is consistent with the aroma and taste, and follows cleanly through the finish. The grassy finish is very long. It is dry, tannic, salivating, and has a sweet nuance.

I've always wanted to try a Flibuste and have now got myself a sample. The nose is very tasty. Sweet, fruity, woody, spicy and with a clear Agricole character. On the palate, chocolate and slightly peppery. Overall, however, the taste does not quite live up to the promise of the nose. A few percent more would suit the rum well. The finish is nice and long, with grassy notes at the very end. Nose towards 9, palate a little over 8. Good overall, but not outstanding.

Mein erster La Flibuste und wahrlich kein schlechter Agricole, zumal mir die meisten nicht zusagen. Trotz der Verdünnung ist dieser Rum extrem komplex mit diversen Gewürzaromen, Holz und Früchten. Gefällt mir!
