Rum Nation Savanna Small Batch Rare Rums Grand Arôme 2006
Glue, varnish and overripe tropical fruit hit first, then roasted wood, leather, licorice and a meaty, bacon-like funk that's pure Savanna Grand Arôme. Several tasters call this the best Rum Nation Savanna they've had, with the 59.7% alcohol tucked in remarkably well. A couple note the palate turns bitter and a touch metallic where the nose stays balanced.

Funky, woody Grand Arôme with big ester fruit Widely loved as one of the top 2006 Savannas — big ester funk, fruit and roasted wood, well-integrated heat. A few find the palate a bit bitter or metallic versus the gorgeous nose.

Among my favorites! An intense and balanced rum with the alcohol beautifully integrated. Finally an affordable rum with phenomenal quality. On the nose and palate well marked aromas of barrel, olive, cherry/plum and roast.Currently the best rum I have tasted. Although Carones have that inimitable tar scent that I love, this one has an incredible and complex aromatic bouquet that makes for a very long tasting experience. Endless persistence. Magical!

Savanna Grand Arome, there definitely should be more of this! Fruity, with fermented fruit, lots of funky esters, nicely integrated alcohol. A flavor spectacle on the palate, which also has its "hollows" compared to other top Grand Arome Savannas. The finish is medium length. A great rum, still dropping one point to 89 pts.

On the nose toasty, dark and 'meaty' - and yet fruity (pear).. On the palate then the typical fermented fruitiness comes in. Great play of aromas!

Savanna as it stands in the book and in pure form. Menthol ice candies, big red cinnamon chewing gum, tropical fruits, ice candies, acidity, very fresh. Alcohol seems well integrated and generally very tasty. But it doesn't quite reach the 2007 vintage. But one of the best of the 2006s!

Yeah, this one is really good! Has everything you expect from a GA - and in a balanced way. And I like rum from a Cognac cask anyway. I definitely have to compare this wonderful Savanna with the RN Savanna 2007 (RX7316). Thanks, MrRumantic, for the sample!

A very good complex Grand Arome. Intense aromas of fruit, esters and glue rise on the nose. On the palate it spreads creamy and intense with an initially nice sugarcane sweetness. The alcohol is very well integrated. Then follow tropical and fermented fruits, as well as some strawberry. 😋 The finish is a bit more bitter, with a hint of leather and dried fruits. Great bottling.

Great Savanna tasting with Artur. A somewhat reduced nose, had to wait a good half hour before being able to taste it well. Overripe yellow fruits, fermented vegetal and sweetness. The entry on the palate is pleasantly soft with fruit aromas, fermented vegetal with a nice acidic and bitter side that gives depth. The wood is a bit too marked for my taste. The finish is moderately long, but the wood remains very long but unfortunately all alone. A rum nevertheless balanced and very pleasant to drink.

8,3:On the nose, medicinal with esters, varnish, glue, intense, overripe tropical, red fruits, olive, briny, rotten, manure, pungent, meaty and bacon notes, bump into our nosetrils. On aeration, the wood is spicy, roasted with nuts, confectionery, the storm calms down, the molasses is grassy, herbaceous, dark with licorice, some bitter orange is out, rubber. 8,5:On the palate, the attack is intense, more balanced as the nose, with esters, pungent, rotten overripe tropical and red fruits, briny olive, slightly metallic, medicinal, as the wood is roasted, smoky with meaty, bacon notes, leather, spicy with cinnamon and the molasses becomes darker with licorice. When tge rum is well oxidized, dried, citrus fruits join. 8,3:The finish is rather long, dry, tannic, as roasted wood, smoky with leather, nuts, sourdough bread, spicy with anise, peppery, pairs vegetal molasses (olive), dark with black tea, licorice, earthy with cigar tobacco and red, dried fruits..

I really like the grand arome releases because they are truly grand. This one was standing on the table next to two other rums airing and it didn't take long for me to sniff this one out. The nose is fruity with varnish, wood, leather and licorice. The empty glass is even better after a while. The palate balanced very well with wood and fruit trailed by and licorice and light notes of medicine and tobacco. The finish is long and woody with dried fruit and light tobacco.

For me the best of the three tested Savanna. The clearly most closed nose. Very nicely complex taste with good leather and esters. But also nice fruit. The finish has the nicest olive stone note.

Did not quite reach Rum Nation Savanna Small Batch #355 for me. Maybe I wouldn’t have noticed it in a direct comparison either. From my memory, #355 was a bit more harmonious. But both very good Grand Arome.

#1763 28-03-2026 - Rate 8.9 The evening was finished with 3 different Rum Nation Savanna rums. All were really good and hard to keep apart. This one was my slight favorit. Rest of the party was more into the cask 436 edition

Very nice bottling - a shame that there won’t be any more to make GA Savannas more accessible.
Review by Alexander Rasch
Personally definitely the best Savanna I've tried so far, as everything seems more balanced here and especially on the nose the rum convinces me a lot. On the palate a bit too bitter and no longer as balanced as on the nose. A lot is happening here, but not everything appeals to me. I probably won't become a big Savanna fan anymore, even though I find the mix of ice candy, bacon and strawberries quite exciting. But the artificial note with the strong metallic harmony personally bothers me a bit. But the quality is undeniable.

Excellent rum with many dimensions of flavours and a nose that develops as you keep comming back. And the taste changes and opens up on the palate as the rum passes.

A really nice and straightforward savanna that tastes like long but good cask aging. I can get behind that. Typical grand arome profile, esters that charm your tongue and good alcohol integration. Easily the best rum nation Savanna I had
