Bonne Mère Darboussier Rhum Hors d'Âges
Here's the twist: plenty of tasters assume this is an agricole, but it's actually molasses-based from Guadeloupe. It throws unusually floral, fruity notes — apricot, cherry, marzipan and cookies — where you'd expect grassy vegetal ones. Then it swings toward wood, smoke and coffee, almost bourbon-like. One reviewer called the taste "in the direction of bourbon." It shifts a lot in the glass, and a few find it too young.

Overall an extremely elegant and smooth rum from Guadeloupe that I tasted at the Sweden Rumfest 2023. Many seems to believe it’s an Agricole, but it’s not it’s an molasses based rum. The Darboussier house started up in 1869 as a sugar factory and have taken its name from Jean Darboussier, a French trader and smuggler. This Hors s’Age is a blend of 6-8 years old molasses based column distilled rum that’s tropical aged in oak barrels, ex-cognac, ex-bourbon and ex-Armagnac.

10.09.2021 Sitting at home with some samples. Notes Medium to dark in colour, Nose Light wood, faint smoke, fruity, light citrus, faint mint, faint chocolate. Palate Round, sweet, light roasted wood, light citrus, spices, medium dry, light floral, faint chocolate. Finish Medium long, lightly dry, sweet, citrus, spice, light floral.

Dieser Rhum Agricole ist sehr speziell. Eine sehr komplexe Nase. Auch am Gaumen ein sehr komplexer Geschmack. Ein langer Abgang. Dieser Rhum Agricole ist etwas für Kenner und wiedereinmal ein gutes Beispiel, wie unterschiedlich Rhum Agricole von der Insel Guadeloupe zu Martinique sein kann. Ich hab gerade noch mal eine Geschmacksexplosion im Mund, mega intensiv... wow🥃

Eine überaus fruchtige Nase für einen Agricole anstatt der typischen pflanzlichen Noten. Ich nehme viel Kirsche, Aprikosen und etwas Mango war. Geschmacklich dann sehr verwässert mit Mango, Zimt und Kirschbonbon. Abgang extrem kurz. Ein ordentlicher Agricole, aber mehr auch nicht.

For Guadeloupe completely unusual first very floral then fruity notes, different from what is usually known from Agricole. Marzipan and cookies next to the fruity notes.

A typical Agricole. Here the distillate notes are absolutely predominant and the barrel storage tones go almost under. For my taste, this should still lie a few years

Premier nez très parfumé et agréable, effluves de caramel. Second nez toujours très parfumé et très doux, Peut-être une pointe plus alcooleu et plus fruité. En bouche l alcool se fait sentir, mais le rhum est très doux, un bonbon. Notes de fruits à coques et de fruits mûrs. Finale très appréciable laissant en bouche un goût de banane mûre flambée.
