CDI Hampden Jamaica DOK 2009

One member calls this "easy sipping" for a DOK, and that's the tension here: the classic Hampden signature — pineapple, glue, nail polish, buttery banana with lime over the top — is all present, just softened by the drop to 44%. A couple of tasters found it a touch thin and less punchy than other DOKs, but the fruit really sings. Bright, tropical, and fun to drink.

The community says
  • Bright tropical fruit
  • Classic DOK esters
  • Keep in mind: A bit thin

am very positively surprised how well the typical DOK flavors still come through despite the dilution to 44%! easy sipping and very tasty and harmonious. typical broadside of pineapple, glue, nail polish, brioche dough, lime citrus jam and buttery honey banana with lime juice over it. mega drinkable and delicious!

#6606 05.04.2026 Enjoying this pretty good Hampden while listening to Hilight Tribe, Vini Vici and Paul van Dyk on Spoitfy. When looking at the price tag you get a lot for your money. The nose is intense and estery with overripe fruits, glue, light floral, marzipan, faint smoke and light wood. The palate is intense and naturally sweet with overripe fruits, roasted wood, light marzipan, caramel and faint smoke. The finish is very long and warm with roasted wood, banana, light marzipan, nutts and faint smoke.

Basically, I like these DOK profiles, but this one didn't please me as much as I thought. Unfortunately one of the less good DOKs I've had in the glass. But price/performance still more than acceptable. Still a bit too thin for me.

... Hampden, legendary Jamaican distillery, which besides rum also produces alcohol for perfumes. In all rums from this distillery you can feel wild esters, after which your whole body soaks in the scent of yellow tropical fruits - mango, papaya, pineapple, peach. One of the rums you "must try before you die".

A rum that leaves me somewhat undecided. On the one hand, the typical high-ester flavors of a DOK (pineapple, glue, etc.), on the other hand, by the dilution but somewhat powerless. Is this already an easy sipper? For Hampden fans, perhaps really...

A wonderful DOK and a showcase for sippable high ester rums. The reduction makes the rum feel thin but of course there are loads of flavours. So the reduction is not necessarily a bad thing in my opinion. There are loads of fruity notes accompanied by nail polish and other typical ester notes.
