TDLs are always a lottery with lots of rivets: Flat, caramel rums. Then there's this other side: Dirty minty bombs and finally a wide spectrum in between where my TDL sweet spot lies. What lot did we draw with this 2000 Vintage? The nose is predominantly of the Spanish variety: caramel candy with mint, light fruit overall little complexity. Most like the fruity 2003s.The mouth is more exciting: behind the caramel is a yellow fruit and the typical TDL flavors: mint, clove, tea, peach and apple. The finish lets up a bit again more acid than menthol.A rum with all the ambivalence of TDL, on the one hand flat triviality, on the other the great mint and fruit flavors that are so unique to here. Not top, not a flop
