Here's the surprise: for a Caroni, this one is oddly gentle. The tar and mechanic's-workshop grit that fans chase are there, but faint — several tasters note the Paxarette sweetness and the wet oak carry more than the diesel does. Underneath, roasted grain, cedar, vanilla and caramel, with dark chocolate in the empty glass. Round and easy-drinking, if not the wildest 1985 batch.

Tasting the Caronis Velier 1985. A nose where light tar blends with notes of roasted wheat. Sour apples and cedar. The palate lacks a little intensity at first, but then some lovely aromas arrive, which come down fairly quickly. The finish is clearly not long enough for a Caroni. There are hints of machine shop, but these are rather faint. The empty glass reveals some fruit, including an astonishing cocoa fruit that we didn't feel on the palate, and the mechanical workshop is more pronounced.

#4220 19.08.2023 we had our yearly meeting among old friends. When we do this once a year its without partners, cellphones and other gadgets. Just some nice rums, a piece of paper and a pen and most fun of all, a blind tasting. The theme of 2023 was Caroni and we had a great time and spend no less then 10 hours talking and tasting. Now this is a nice rum. It doesn't have all the Caroni notes but it's really well balanced. Medium fruity with a nice touch of caramel. Draws really nice curtains in the glass and the empty glass has some chocolate and a light medicinal note.

Epic Velier Caroni Tasting 2023: Initially somewhat unspectacular on the nose - although there are tart and definitely a few dirty notes typical of HTR, the heavy sweetness of Paxarette in combination with the cask is particularly present here. On the palate, there are again beautiful oak influences with vanilla caramel sweetness, tart spicy aromas of pepper, dark chocolate and a little coffee, before the tar associations appear again in the background. An interesting HTR that definitely does not belong to the top class of the Marques, but nevertheless produces an interesting bottling. Overall, the 1985 batch is somewhat drier than the 1982.

Omg, this Caroni is so sweet, like no other! ... Caroni je destilerie z Trinidadu, produkujici v dobe sve nejvetsi slavy rum, ktery se pridaval v pomeru 1:10 do namornickeho blendu. Byl totiz moc vyrazny a divny nez aby byl prijemny na jazyku. V roce 2000 destilerka skoncila s produkci a byla uzavrena. Az v roce 2010 se objevili degustatori, kteri si rum oblibili prave pro jeho specialni chut. A zajem rostl. Caroni patri do kategorie rumu "you need to try before you die". Doporucuji, Caroni je opravdu unikatni rum.

1985 is definitely a surprising vintage ! This is a very round rum with no major flaws. Probably lacks a bit of complexity to get closer to 90 points. This one really makes me think of a high proof version of the Old Legend.

Caroni 85 Crosstasting, for this i had higher hopes. In all honesty it was more like a really good rye eau de vie in a wet caroni cask. After all it really did not elevate itself over 90 points and in all honesty i feel it could somehow...
