The surprise here is the nose, not the age: vanilla, chocolate, toffee and coffee with unexpected fruit — mandarin, orange peel, a touch of pineapple over it. Most tasters call it the best Flor de Caña they've had. The catch lands on the palate, which several describe as thin and clearly watered down at 45%. 8,6:On the nose, charred wood notes like chocolate, cocoa, toffee, roasted nuts, spicy, slightly smoky, various fruits like dried apricots, raisins, toasted coconut, pineapple, cherry, orange peel, diary notes, bump into our nosetrils. On aeration, the rum is round and balanced, buttery with butterscotch, vanilla, coffee, the molasses is sweet with honey, earthy with tobacco, hints of cardboard pop up. 8,3;On the palate, the attack is round, balanced, slightly dry, with roasted wood notes like chocolate, caramel, coffee, roasted nuts, later burnt sugar, pastry, leather, a bit smoky, spicy with vanilla, allspice, fruity with dried fruits like apricots, raisins, citrus and tropical fruits, as the molasses is earthy with tobacco, dark with black tea.When the rum is well rested, tannins and metallic patina arise. 8,3:The finish is long, dry&tannic, with tons of roasted wood notes, spicy, smoky, meaty, pair grapes, dried, citrus fruits and tobacco..

Flor de Cana waren mir bislang eher als unspektakuläre einfache Rum bekannt, die auch schon mal eine Dosage enthielten oder stark verdünnt sind. Insofern war meine Erwartung nicht allzu hoch. Und ich wurde auch nicht enttäuscht..angesichts des Preises und des dargebotenen… das ist hier auch nichts.. das ganze ist recht eindimensional und mehr auf der Fassseite mit ein paar Gewürzen und vielleicht noch etwas Schokolade..sorry, dass ist mir deitlich zu wenig

I was very lucky today. I stumbled upon this extremely rare bottle when picking up my latest samples and bottles. I was allowed to buy a sample, it set me back 90,- euro, but I didn't regret it. One of the best rums I have sampled in the last 30+ years. The nose is there from the start, a wonderful fruity, smoky vanilla mix. The palate was one og the most well balanced i have ever had, not too much or too little of anything. Wow, just wow. The finish lingers on what seems like forever...... 5 generations and 130+ years and this is what you get, PERFECTION!

Endlich mal wieder ein einigermaßen vernünftiger Rum. Klar hat erkennen leichte Süße zu bieten, aber egal, auch viel Kramell und Toffee, aber auch ne Runde Holz. Echt schon ganz okay dieser Rum, gibt miesere.

Danke an Rumurmel für die Chance zu probieren. Die Nase ist sehr ausgewogen, Vanille, Schokolade, Honig sehr mild und einladend. Aber im Vergleich mit anderen Flor de Cana auch Frucht vor allem Mandarine oder Orange. Erinnert mich an diese Apfelsinenschnitten. Im Mund mild, die Gerüche finden auf der Zunge ihre Gegenspieler. Aber es gibt zusätzlich eine schöne tiefe Würzigkeit mit angenehmer Komplexität. Abgang mittellang mit schönem würzigem Nachhall. Wirklich der beste Flor de Cana den ich bisher im Glas hatte aber der Preis ist nach meinem Ermessen GAGA!

11.04.26 Franconian Tasting Gang Treffen bei Rumurmel. Also Flor de Cana hatte ich ja auch schon den ein oder anderen im Glas, bzw in der Cola und im Kakao. Aber dieser ist aus dem Gedächtnis heraus schon eine andere Hausnummer. Schöner Verschluss übrigens.

Leckere Nase ohne sprittige Noten und überraschend viel Frucht über der Vanille, dem Toffee/Karamell, der Schokolade, dem Holz und dem Kaffee. Neben Kokos ist da auch Zitrusschale (Mandarine, Orange) und etwas Ananas. Am Gaumen dann zwar etwas dünn aber doch aromatisch und schmackhaft mit Schokolade, Kaffee, Vanille, Holz, Tabak und schön samtigem Mundgefühl. Fein.

Franconian Tasting Gang trifft sich bei Rumurmel, April 2026 (Danke für den Einlass in die Rum-Schatzkammer. Was für eine coole Location!). Bisher bin ich von jedem FdC enttäuscht gewesen. Hier ist es ein zwiespältiges Bild, Nase überragend lecker und am Gaumen zwar dünn, aber geschmacklich OK. Trotzdem enttäuschend, wenn man den Preis und den Auftritt (Verpackung) betrachtet.

Wow, nach 30 Jahren eigentlich ganz guter Stoff! Nicht überlagert oder holzig, dennoch mit ordentlich Fasseinfluss. An sich ein guter Rum, wären da nicht zwei Dinge: Der Preis und die Verdünnung. In Fassstärke und für etwas weniger Moneten wäre das eine wirklich schöne Abfüllung. So reicht es nur für „schön mal probiert zu haben“, schade…
