13.11.2020 A cosy evening at home with some friends and good rum. Notes Medium dark to dark in colour. Nose Light wood, faint smoke, complex, light anise, faint herbal, faint floral, dried fruit, light tar, faint rubber. Palate Oily, intense, wood, lightly spicy, fruits, cherry, spices, light tar, faint rubber, faint chocolate. Finish Long, wood, light roasted, intense, warm, cherry, spice, light tar.

Wirkliche Raritäten und fühlen sich wie Rums aus einer anderen Zeit an. Die hohe % Zahl führt zu einer tollen Geschmacksentfaltung und der Alkohol ist tatsächlich gut integriert. Diesen hier fanden wir etwas besser als den 69,0er, da er noch etwas Süße und Mehrschichtigkeit mit transportieren konnte. Jedoch sind beide Versionen auf einem sehr hohen Level. Nicht vergleichbar mit den tropischen Velier Caronis, sondern auf ganz eigene Art starke Vertreter.

Blindverkostung: eine sehr tiefe, volle und komplexe Nase. Zu Beginn mit der Süße und Fruchtkorb von alten tropischen Guyana Rums geschmückt, Rosinen und Marzipan übergehend in eine Dreckigkeit von Nagellackentferner und Petroleum. Caroni ist hier bereits gut erkennbar. Zudem ist auch bereits hier erkennbar, vor allem im Vergleich zu Sample 4, dass er ein paar Jahre länger auf dem Buckel haben muss. Der Gaumen bestätigt auch direkt die Alterseinschätzung im Vergleich zu Sample 2. Zu Beginn ist der Rum etwas adstringend und geht dann in eine angenehme Cremigkeit über, was ein tolles Mundgefühl ausmacht. Er kommt mit ungefähr 60% daher und sollte definitiv älter als der Vergleichskandidat Sample 4 sein. Leider bin ich absolut kein Caroni Experte, um dieses Blindsample korrekt einem Jahrgang zuordnen zu können, da ich manche Jahrgänge entweder noch überhaupt nicht getrunken habe oder einfach noch kein Jahrgangscrosstasting gemacht habe. Von dem, was ich aber kürzlich getrunken habe kommt dieses Blindsample am ehesten dem Jahr 1996 nahe und ist somit schätzungsweise 20-23 Jahre alt. Um den Abgang nicht zu vergessen, fällt dieser Erwartungsgemäß lange aus mit viel Holz und einer angenehmen Bitterkeit. Ja, was soll ich sagen? Ich hätte gerne ein größeres Sample von diesem Rum gehabt, da ich ihn zum einen lecker fand und zum anderen ihn gerne noch gegen andere Caronis crosstesten würde. 92 Punkte.
