Yeah, it's hard to deny that this is a T.D.L :) The good old mint is of course excellently recognizable here. Otherwise, it has a slight Caroni touch, thanks to tar, dirt, and medicinal notes. Delicious.

The taste and nose profiles of T.D.L. from 1991 are, in my opinion, somewhat similar to Caroni 97, 98, especially those dirty technical flavors and smells from grandpa's workshop. I haven't found so many of them in any other T.D.L. vintage, and that's exactly what makes it one of my favorite vintages.

Typical for the well-known 1991 TDL releases - in taste a blend of the rather Spanish-style, light TDL column profile and the heavy heavy profile from Caroni. A typical blended Caroni profile. A joy for Caroni lovers, these rums hold up well against the continental Caronis from the late 90s, especially since the 1991 releases, as in this case, also present themselves with a pleasant residual sweetness. Very good rum with appealing complexity.

TMAH mark stands for Trinidad Main Angostura Heavy. This rum did sit in the glass for a good 25 minutes before the review, i think it needs more than that. On the nose: Intense. Vanilla as a main note. Light caramel. Light tar and charred notes on the background. Taste: Intense and alcoholic at first. On the first sips i did get sweet vanilla and caramel notes but as the rum opens up you get more minty/menthol notes with smoky rubber/tar notes. Dirty mouthfeel. Light woody notes. Vanilla notes then chance the palate towards sweeter side. Now im starting to taste some similarities with Caroni. Finish: Minty, light menthol and tar notes. Light vanilla notes. Finishes dry. It takes time to open up and its still quite alcoholic for 22 years old rum and that did bother me, but once the rum opens up, its quite ok with small sips.

At first, nice typical Trinidad notes come from the glass, with subtle mint. On the palate it weakens a lot and you only taste sweetness. Alcohol is also not well integrated, I expected more for the age.
