Beautiful and quite complex rum. The sugar substitute is still moderate and makes it extremely smooth. The PX sherry influence keeps it lively on the tongue and is really enjoyable.

It can be better... tastes almost only like sherry, sulfurous raisins, and dried fig. The base rum used brings an unpleasant sharpness, plus it's simply way too sweet for me. Alcohol integration is anything but good despite only 40%.

Very well balanced, quite sweet but very smooth and a great daily sipper. The price is very fair and for beginners a great deal. On the palate some vanilla, a lot of raisins and sherry and a round and nice balanced finish with caramel and sherry.

The base in this rum is a 5yo blend from Guyana and Barbados aged in the Caribbean. I’ve tasted this blend and clearly recognize Demerara. After that it’s aged for 3 Solera years in Spain in Dos Cortados Sherry (very dry) barrels. Thereafter it’s aged for 2 more Solera years in former PX Sherry (very sweet) barrels. Have also read that they add a little PX Sherry (unconfirmed). These two years and the eventual added flavors give it an significant sweet Sherry taste that I don’t appreciate.

Retaste this one and it's a very mild well rounded rum that I think can be used for beginners as well. Draws very nice curtains and the empty glass is full of flavours.

Well… this is very sweet and strongly sherry forwards. I don’t get much character of the rum out of this release tbh. Nevertheless, the sherry influence is intense, but nicely executed. If you are in the mood for something sweet and sherry, this is better than some „highly estimed“ sherry (finished) single casks, where disappointment of an overwhelming sherry influence covering the underlying spirit is the dominating experience. Here you get what you‘d expect. Not more but also nothing less.

This specific 3 times aged (5+3+2) rum is something, that you must try. Yes, it's sweet, full of raisins and some cookies but it is complex, warm, tasty with little strong end. Mostly enjoyable in cold evenings after hard work with legs on table and good cigar :-)

Nothing extraordinary, this one was a little sharp then pleasantly sweet on palate, rather indistinct mix of scents on nose. I felt raisins and vanilla the most. I tasted this as a sample, but know the bottle, it’s very affordable and pleasant for the price. A good start for beginners.

At first the nose is not special, but the taste and finish then convince. Somehow a nice sherry, slightly dry in taste and drier on the finish, and all as a rum, somehow tasty.

7,8:On the nose... quite a lot. There's fruit: fresh grapes, banana, peaches, candied prunes and nuts, followed by almonds after a while. The barrel is there too, offering well-balanced oak and tobacco notes. Overall, it offers an interestingly dry, gourmand impression. 7,2:On the palate, we find tobacco and walnut, with candied fruit also present but a little in the background. The whole is soft, but well-balanced with alcohol. 7,5:The finish is long. The aromas of tobacco, walnuts, prunes and oak, which we enjoyed earlier, are again present. Edit:28.9.25, a downgrade to 7,5.

At 40%, it is very intense. The sweetness is pleasant and not too intense. Unfortunately, the px cask masks the distillate's own flavor, if there is one. Price-performance ratio is super.

A sweet Rum, mainly due to to Sherry and as one might think some additional sugar. Maybe they just use some very "wet" Sherry casks... It is quite mainstream and thus divides the opinion for casual drinkers and enthusiasts, something to keep in mind when looking for the score. It's mild, a bit shy on the nose with every other influence other than the Sherry, but thats to be expected. On the tongue sweet (but I had sweeter), Sherry, some Molasses. More an aperitif than a sipper. I cannot imagine this as a mixer.

I lowered my original rating of 8.3 to 7.8 because I now prefer younger rums that are even fresher and significantly fruitier. 2022 no qualified rating

Really sweet. Lot's of chocolate, cocoa and coffee in both taste and smell. Hint of raisins on the background but to me I have and always will remember this rum as a cocoa and coffee flavour. It is a nice sipper. Full body, lots of flavour, short to medium finish. Great value for the money.

Comes across woody with beautiful sherry notes. Strong taste, sweet, but the alcohol also comes through, nicely oily in the mouth. The finish is nicely sweet and long. In my opinion, a great rum.

Yes, very distinct sherry notes, but not as super dominant as some perceive them. The question of sweetening seems to be a mystery, the bottler claims that no sugar is added and that the sugar comes solely from the sherry casks into the rum. But given the amount, I have my doubts. But it's tasty!

Nose is sweet and reminiscent of port or sherry which is a leading indicator of what is to come. The mouth is sweet and sickly, immediately too much and in to rum liquor territory. The main mouth notes are raisins and sugar with a medium finish with treacle and wine on the end of the mouth. Ultimately it is too sweet for me, it’s like a Madeira or Port with some rum elements and doesn’t quite come together in a package that I want to drink

Yes my God, sweet as a lolly on the Hamburg cathedral surrounded by classic modern everyman rum notes. A little vanilla, a little wood and caramel and it will find its market. Sticky remoteness of the little shit, but it doesn't hurt

Le Dos Maderas PX 5+5 is a rum with triple aging. The first aging of 5 years, tropical, from Barbados and Guyana, very English indeed. Then 5 more years in Spain, 3 years in Palo Cortado casks, then 2 more years in Pedro Ximenez sherry casks. An interesting rum, thanks to its multiple aging and origins, it allows you to move from more classic rums to more complex rums.

The nose picks up sweetness and sherry notes. Hardly any alcohol presence. On the palate, if you hold it in your mouth for a few seconds and then let it slowly flow around, it reveals a pleasant sweetness with sherry notes, caramel, vanilla, and some dried fruits. The flavor lingers for about 20 seconds after a thoughtful swallow before gently fading away.

Smell: A completely different picture than the 5+3. Clearly fruitier, vanilla, caramel, sherry, sweet. Taste-wise also clearly better than the 5+3. Here the aromatic profile is much more pronounced. Distinct sherry notes, vanilla (very dominant, almost artificial), caramel, raisin. At the same time very mild and smooth. The PX finish brings even more sweetness and fullness to the profile. For me, this Dos Maderas compared to the 5+3 has a much more appealing price-performance ratio. A good entry-level rum that is very accessible thanks to the PX finish. Compared to the Wagemut PX, however, somewhat weaker as it is significantly sweeter.

Smell: immediately fruity with sherry and dried fruit, subtly woody, then spicy, some vanilla, hardly biting. Taste: creamy, oily, very soft and mild, intensely sweet but just still pleasant for me, a composition of caramel, vanilla, chocolate, dried fruit, always different, spicy, pleasant light sharpness, not at all alcoholic, super delicious, I would buy it again anytime.

Very sweet rum - again feels like it’s an artificial sweetness to help round it off somehow…. Somewhat difficult to nose as well as nothing really comes to the nose bar alcoholic prickle and some wood notes but that prickle really fights back despite it being 40% ABV. Nose - tight/closed off (no real difference when adding drops of water), gentle spice, gentle wood, REALLY faint dried fruit but nothing else Palate - massively sweet, pronounced prunes, raisins, dates, almost laced with honeyed sugar and not a lot else. No oakiness, no spices and if there was it was an overriding sweetness that bombs the palate. Finish - short (thank god) This bottling almost reminds me of Planteray - that sickening sweetness that feels so unnatural and artificial and cloying…. I’ve had the pleasure of several PX cask spirits (rum and whisky) but none of them were this sickeningly sweet Quite poor for my palate I’m afraid!
