Cane Island Beenleigh Australia

Glue and solvent on the nose, then white oak, clove, pepper and orange zest on the palate — this Beenleigh pot-still drinks so much like whisky that several tasters said they'd have called it bourbon blind. There's pear, banana and a little caramel too, but at 43% and only 4 years it reads young, thin and a touch sharp. A curious, herbal, almost agricole-leaning Aussie.

A rum that I find really original and quite complex. For the nose, make a first pass, then let it air to make a second pass which will let you pass other nuance. A rather fruity rum with a vegetable roundness that I like very much

To be honest, I would have mistaken this for a Bourbon, if I hadn't known it's a rum. Probably the pot still and low cut points could be a reason for this. Judged on it's own, this is a rather boring spirit to me. The finish is a bit weak. Nose: is this rum? Blind, I'd have thought that it would be a bourbon. A bit of orange, flowers, clove, maybe a hint of vanilla. Later also peach on syrup. Taste: a bit of glue, but mainly white oak, clove, pepper, orange zest, peach, vanilla, dough. Finish: short and a bit weak, mainly lingering on the spice and orange.

#6640 11.04.2026 Getting my palate ready for the tasting tonight at Whisky Watcher. Listening to some nice tracks by Ruben de Ronde, Dhuka and Ranji on Spotify. Pretty decent rum when looking at the price tag. The nose is fruity with pear, citrus, floral and light herbs. The palate is oily with light wood, herbs, caramel, citrus, pear and light banana. The finish is medium long with wood, caramel, banana and light herbs.

Surprisingly intense for only 43% and only 4y old. Also very fair for just under €30. A great start for Australia! Cherry, honey and rosewater with some vanilla. Definitely a great affordable rum that you can't go wrong with.

I got this young Beenleigh as one of the samples from 24 days of rum. I like their world wide rum range. This one is little alcoholic on nose, but sugar cane on palate was fine. Why not, pleasant is the right verdict.

Floral, tart notes, but not too dominant, tending a little towards agricole. Quite peppery spice alongside the vegetal notes. Therefore not my preferred type of rum overall, but an experience for once

Nothing particularly wrong here, just really boring. Way too short inside a cask. And the abv does not help. We have seen better Independent beenleighs for that price. Shame! I see the quality that they can deliver elsewhere....

orange marmalade, vanilla, copper. Wasn’t for me

Aged rum

Avg Rating 8.0/10 over 16,000 Rums

Aged rum is where the spirit earns its complexity. In a tropical warehouse a barrel loses 6 to 10 percent of its contents to evaporation every year, which is why an 8-year Caribbean rum can taste deeper than a 20-year Scotch. This page gathers every rum on RumX that has spent real time in wood, with community ratings to separate the genuinely mature from the merely dark.
