CDI C.A.D.C Venezuela (Bottled for Germany) 2005
People who already like Venezuelan column-still rum and want it at full strength are the audience here. Expect vanilla, toffee, dried fruit and a clear chocolate-coffee roast, with clove and leather behind it. Several tasters call it easy-drinking for the style, though at 60.8% the alcohol pokes through on the nose and a couple find it a touch hot and unpolished.

How does CDI C.A.D.C Venezuela (Bottled for Germany) 2005 taste?
Summarized by AI from community reviews.
Fruity, roasty Venezuelan at cask strength Most rate it a very good Venezuelan — fruity, spicy and chocolatey, harmonious for the origin. The catch: at cask strength the heat sits forward for some, and one taster found it thin and young.

Insanely good Venezuela. Together with the RA my absolute benchmark Venezuela cask strength rum. The cognac cask finish brings extra complexity. Unbelievably delicious and harmonious! Insider tip: Kennedy Manhattan with it!

Again this high alcoholic sharpness. It tastes like an immature rum that still needs to mature. Or simply should be diluted from the start. The hinted aromas are completely overwhelmed.

A nice vintage and in my opinion significantly better than the 12-year-old from CDI and for me the best rum from Venezuela I have ever drunk. Lots of fruit and many spices. Overall very coherent and harmonious.

Tried as a 2cl sample, thanks to Mentalo for the free sample. At first very reserved on the nose. Nothing yet suggests >60% cask strength. More on the spicy side with vanilla, clove, leather and white grapes. On the palate then a very approachable profile. Above average for Venezuelan standards, but rather falling in international comparison. Still a very solid rum. After recently having the 2001 Fiji, I have to say, a quite similar profile, just a bit edgier.

Very nice dark / sweet / fruity nose as you would expect. Smelling this one is very enjoyable. On the palate again dark / sweet / woody notes as you would expect. Unfortunately, alcohol is a tick too present and there is quite some harshness which you can find regularly in high proof column stills.

Wow great, that's exactly my profile. A really very roasted rum, coffee and chocolate are clearly recognizable. Otherwise a slight sweetness thanks to vanilla and caramel, cask and spice are also subtly recognizable.

Tasted together with DomM in the Blume of Hawaii. For me a positive surprise after the other drams we had in the glass. Although rather in the category of easy sippers, it still almost pleased me very much.

Beautiful trip to Venezuela

This is a really good CDI considering the price tag. The nose is fruity with spices topped with some barrel and a hint of leather. The palate is slightly sweet and spicy with fruits and chocolate/coffee. In the back i find cognac and a hint of medicinal notes. The finish is long and warm, slightly bitter/spicy with oak and raisins.

Actually, expectations were higher than this rum actually is. On the nose it's nicely round, light, dark chocolate, dried fruits, vanilla, a bit of wood, sweet creamy. But then surprisingly on the palate it is immediately sharp-edged, woody, peppery. Intense, notes of mocha, cocoa. The finish is still intensely sharp sweet. Vanilla woody.

Color: Amber. Smell: Elegant - slightly fruity, creamy with toffee and white chocolate. Also apricot. A bit floral. Taste: At first toffee and chocolate, becomes spicy in the mouth over time. When swallowing spicy toffee, anise, caraway and licorice. Grassy with unripe green vegetables. Finish: Long and spicy dry with anise, woody sharp in the aftertaste, very dry and slightly bitter. 85 points.

Nose: Alcohol comes through quite strongly at first, followed by vanilla and citrus fruits. Accompanied by spices like cloves. Palate: sharp start, while the alcohol still pulls into the nose, unusual sweetness on the palate for a cask release. Malty notes of whisky but also fresh, herbal aromas. Finish: fresh, slightly woody. Conclusion: A bit too alcoholic on the nose to get a higher rating, but a pleasant profile of sweetness, whisky and herbs on the palate.
