Cand, hon, p, and a signature Bielle pepper on the finish — this 8-year agricole from Marie-Galante splits nicely between fruit and spice. Several tasters find it doux for a cask-strength pour, with vanilla and honey rounding out the wood. I almost feel bad giving such a low rating compared to other members, but I find that the pepper and wood take up too much space even though the agricole backbone and freshness are still present. I'm a bit disappointed, especially for a bottle costing €100 🙃 30/04: I'll leave the rum in the bottle a bit to see if oxidation does it good. Update 21/12/21: now the wood has calmed down with the bottle three-quarters full and very pastry-like aromas have appeared. A real pleasure. 12/12/24 The alcohol is still too present on the nose but a strong velvety mouth of vanilla, wood, and solvent is there. In hindsight, the price is acceptable.

Another very sympathetic representative of Bielle, this time from 2012. Mint, spices and juice on the nose, the taste is very complex and for me it's a great agricole with perfectly integrated alcohol. Finish rather short. Very nice.

A hint of mint and herbs, less present in its 2014 counterpart. I like it! But I prefer the 2014, which is more gourmand.

On the nose, orange/chocolate side but bitter (not sweet). Also a mentholated and vegetal side, as well as wood and lighter spices. The alcohol is present but well integrated. On the palate, the mentholated side stands out a lot, there are spices (pepper) and well-marked wood, and the fruity side I had on the nose remains present but less marked. The finish is medium with the wood side coming out and it’s rounder with the fruitiness remaining.

The nose is very focused on candied fruits. The nose is captivating with a nice freshness and loads of spices. The licorice note typical of Bielle is there but less present than usual. On the palate, despite being a BDF, it is soft. The wood is delicately present. It is fruity and pleasant. We get a nice vanilla-licorice length. Very harmonious and a worthy representative of what good and beautiful agricultural rums from the French Antilles are! 2012 was an exceptional year in terms of cane harvests, and Bielle succeeded in its bet!

BDF 2012 The 2012 vintage has the peculiarity of having 2 versions bottled in 2018 and 2020: 54.8° - 53.8° and 53.7% Aged 6 and 8 years in Bourbon oak barrels and prestigious sweet white wine (Yquem) and always unfiltered. Nose: I find a side of candied orange, menthol, and pepper on a hint of wood. Palate: The alcohol is perfectly integrated. A honeyed and mentholated side comes immediately, then towards the end I find spices. A beautiful length for the finish.

The two years of ageing have done a lot of good to this Bielle which gains in complexity until it approaches a good AOC Martinique rum while keeping this shower of sweetness proper to the house.
