10.02.2012 Nice little private tasting with a few friends in the back of this old bar. Notes Light in colour. Nose Fresh, wood, light roasted, banana, light caramel, light vegetal, light ester. Palate Fresh, wood, light roasted, pineapple, caramel, faint floral, light chocolate, light ester. Finish Medium to long, wood, fruits, light caramel.

Alcohol could be better integrated. From a 2000 Hampden I expected a bit more. Alongside fruity, slightly musty notes.

Surprisingly positive for the young age. Powerful fruit aromas, some young wood, subtle spices and sweetness - but primarily the impressive tropical fruits remain. And with release in 2008, almost a piece of rum history...

Interesting young old Hampden. Unfortunately a bit unbalanced towards the end. 5% less alcohol would have done well here, then the creaminess would have come through much better.

Day 1 in the Christmas calendar. Blind. Sure Jamaica. But would not have guessed Hampden, rather New Yarmouth or Long Pond! The alcohol was not that noticeable, so already well integrated. Pleasant nose, only slight ester notes. Fruity and vanilla with a distinct lovage note at the back.On the palate, the nose is confirmed. Out the back still a light but fat smokiness.Overall a good and somewhat surprising rum.

... Hampden, legendary Jamaican distillery, which besides rum also produces alcohol for perfumes. In all rums from this distillery you can feel wild esters, after which your whole body soaks in the scent of yellow tropical fruits – mango, papaya, pineapple, peach. One of the rums you "must try before you die".

A rough ride, there is greatness that lies to be found but it would have took a lot longer than 8 years. For the lrok 2000 mark there is so much better out there. Still It Is not horrible, just not great...
