19.12.2020 Nice tasting shortly before Christmas in a private area of the bar. Unfortunately this very old bar closed down in 2023. Notes Dark in colour. Nose Intense, wood, tannins, vegetal, herbs, floral, light caramel. Palate Warm and intense, wood, roasted, banana, citrus, light mint, leather. Finish Medium to long, wood, medicinal, light chocolate, herbs.

An evolving and contrasting Chairman. The nose is very fruity: lemon (zest), apple, kiwi, peach, and dried fruits come together like a wandering fruit basket. The oak is not left behind, with spices and a toasted, caramelized side that diversify the profile. The profile is relatively soft and pleasant to the nose. On the palate, the profile takes a drier, more herbal turn. Tea and flowers take the lead, accompanied by tobacco, toasted oak, and spices (vanilla, pepper). The fruits are much less pronounced, only dried dates stand out. The change in profile is surprising, but it’s a shame that the fruity part is so affected. The alcohol is well integrated. The finish is of medium length, supported by the warmth of the spices and the dry side of the oak. You also find tea and dried fruits, nuts, tobacco, toasted notes, and caramel. This Chairman is quite nice and elegant, but it lacks conviction, variety, and depth to be at the top of the Saint Lucia chain.

Mild combination of pot and column still. In total, the pot still has the upper hand in terms of taste, the column still does not make a noticeable positive contribution. Intensity a bit too low. Since I like other bottlings significantly better...

St. Lucia World Cup Tasting The worse version of the 1802 but that still means good! A bit more woodiness like old molasses rums from Martinique bring. Palate: Also here, more a Jam/Guyana blend, the column sweetness unfortunately dominates part of the aroma too much but the alcohol content helps the column significantly.
