A typical OWH where I miss the fruity high esters a bit. Overall very round and complex. Therefore a very good easy sipper!

This is a very rare bottle and at release the price was very good. The nose is fruity with roasted wood, lovely esters and vanilla. The palate is intense and funky with roasted wood, esters and fruit trailed by spices. The finish is long and woody with fruit and spices.

Must also honestly admit that this is a rather poor Hampden. Sure, Hampden typical lots of Estwr and tropical fruits like pineapple, mango and banana. But there are also recognizable solvents and a certain spiciness. But a little too alcoholic.

In the nose still a pleasant fruity estery essence...the palate loses fruit and alcohol, esters and wood dominate ! Dried fruit and spice remain on the finish!

It doesn't always have to be high ester. On the contrary, here I have the young marrow with the lowest ester content. Let's see what the 6 years of maturation have brought. Nose: very fruity, tart and sweet, with lots of lime and lemon as well as kiwi and gooseberry. But also has clear hints of washing-up liquid. The relatively high ABV makes it smell fresh like a solvent. The esters present bring some yoghurt into play. Behind that it is slightly spicy-roasted, with vanilla and umami. A little too much dishwashing liquid, otherwise quite nice. 7,7 Palate: All that remains of the moisture of the nose here is lime with a little pineapple. Otherwise I find more spicy-roasted aromas. A little pepper, a little salt, very bacony. The finish is bacon-fat pecan and metallic. A little too tart, although I like the bacon flavor. 7,5

The six years of tropical aging suit this OWH well, but on the attack it feels a bit thin and there are occasional alcoholic peaks. A pretty good Jamaica rum, but due to its rather low ester level it seems somewhat generic.

Classic talk about a lot of music for little money. On the nose ester fruit and vanilla. On the palate pineapple, mango, glue. Alcohol integration is fine. The finish is longer, spicy and pleasant. Overall a very pleasant bottle.

Let’s start by saying that I adore Hampden, so subtract some points of my score to find a more neutral rating. This is a nice OWH bottling by Kirsch. It is fruity and intense. It is a different dimension of the OB OWH 8 years. However, it lacks the full round body that the OB has, and (more importantly) this one is way too alcoholic. I usually water it down to around 40% and that is where it shines and opens up with a lot of fruits. You could argue that you get a lot of rum for your money that way, but it begs the question why it was bottled at this strength.
