#4446 02.11.2023 Not too bad but a but light on the profile. Well rounded and naturally sweet. I like my Chairman's Reserve bold and in your face and this one is on the lighter side. Medium fruity and fresh. Palate is oily and has some licorice and nutts. The finish is medium long with some chocolate. The empty glass has a light smoky note and the chocolate is more obvious.

Saint Lucia offers a wide range of rum types, always encouraging discovery of new things. The nose here is vibrant and opens with a lovely tropical fruit marmalade, accompanied by dried fruits, caramel and soft spices. The medicinal touch on solvents recalls the Jamaican profile, which gives aroma and body to this reduced profile. It's tasty and gentle on the nostrils. The palate is round and opulent on ripe yellow tropical fruits, solvent notes and herbs (thyme). The spicy wood adds character with smoky notes. You can also sense some licorice and caramel for sweetness. The profile is varied and very drinkable, similar to a Worthy Park. The alcohol is very well integrated. The finish is medium length, a bit more acidic, bitter and tannic. The well-toasted wood takes more space alongside the exotic fruits and medicinal notes, coating the palate with its imprint. Maybe not the most complex profile but a good pleasure rum to sip.

Quite a lot of young wood. And it still comes across a bit unbalanced. Unfortunately, it lacks that distillate-specific flavor.

It gets increasingly too sweet on the palate for me, under which the complexity noticeably suffers. For me, a rather weak, because too interchangeable St. Lucia release.

Rather metallic, burnt with a hint of thyme, anise, green pepper, and licorice, very dry and astringent with lots of tannins. The alcohol could be better integrated... in my opinion, the 2005 vintage is significantly better.

Read full review →If you enjoy the standard Chairman's Reserve range and were looking at something a bit pricier as an upgrade then this is not badly priced at all. I would recommend trying this over the Chairman's Reserve Forgotten Casks. I don't think that offers as much of a progression as this.
