Excellence Rhum Maison La Mauny 2015
At only 3 years old, this Martinique agricole tastes far older than it should — tasters kept guessing a much longer age. Expect a full-on 62.8% pour: pepper, nutmeg, dried figs and apricot, tobacco and plenty of wood, with a green, herbal, minty streak running through. Fresh, spicy and packed with flavor, but the alcohol still shows its youth.

How does Excellence Rhum Maison La Mauny 2015 taste?
Aggregated from 37 community reviews.
Punchy young agricole, peppery and herbal Most find this a very good young La Mauny — intense, peppery and woody with real depth for its age. The common gripe: the high ABV isn't fully tamed, and the minty-herbal side isn't for everyone.

A great color and a great nose, bursting with dried fruit and typical agricole aromas. A super agricole that is uncomplicated and a lot of fun. Perhaps the untamed wild brother of the excellent Dillon Bdf.

A young agricole with a cognac ageing that gives a lot to the rum. The young age is noticeable with a vegetal side that resembles tea, on the other hand a lot of wood and spices are the main traits. Not many interesting notes to add so it's not interesting

A young Agricole with a good %%. Nose: multi-layered aromas of dried fruit, fragrant wood and all kinds of spices. Dried fig, dried apricot and raisin, plus gooseberry, blackcurrant and blackberry. There is also a hint of orange. Then there's green stuff like camomile, hay, but also artichoke pickled in vinegar. Quite interesting. 8,6 Palate: spicy-woody and intense. Slightly salty and bitter, but not unpleasant. Mocha with some liquorice, nutmeg and tart nut. Bitter orange and violet soap on the finish. Quite intense for only 3 years. 8.2 PLV is really good with this one, the soap stays in the background and there is no lack of intense aromas.

19.12.2020 Nice tasting shortly before Christmas in a private area of the bar. Unfortunately this very old bar closed down in 2023. Notes Medium dark colour. Nose Fresh, wood, light roasted, nutmeg, orange, dried fruit. Palate Oily, wood, vegetal, spice, light orange, fresh. Finish Medium to long, wood, balanced, warm, citrus.
Review by TheRhumhoe
A very successful Excellence Rhum bottling. Despite its young age, Maison La Mauny has pronounced aromas. The nose is very fresh and vegetal, enhanced by spices and candied fruits that give it a certain roundness. Very powerful on the palate, this rum blends fruity citrus notes with pepper, nutmeg and tobacco. The cognac cask lends an alcoholic touch to the finished product, which continues to develop more mentholated aromas on the finish. The finish is long and very expressive, very warm and dry, with aromas of tobacco, spices and sugarcane. A tasty, fiery, multi-faceted rum.

A little too many herbal notes for me.

What a board. Here you can clearly notice the over 60%.Lots of flavor, spicy, peppery, fruity and nice woody for the young age, but still seems a bit immature. Alcohol clearly noticeable. I like it anyway, because of the intense flavor. If the alcohol was better integrated, there would be more points.

A good agricultural rum, certainly very young but which develops a panoply of spices and various woods in mouth! .... A small special mention to the peppery taste in the mouth that is clearly identifiable. I recommend it, it is a good selection!
Review by Morgan Garet
On the nose, it's greedy and fine at the same time, with hints of old furniture, butterscotch and vanilla. On the palate, it's well-balanced, with leather, tobacco and wood in the forefront, but still very pleasant. Long finish on spices and citrus fruit (oranges?). Very good La Mauny (at the blind tasting I gave it a much older age).

Tasted from a freshly opened bottle. The rum was a little in your face but I’m sure that the next few tastings will be superior to my 80 point rating as I favor to drink from bottles that had a little more time to breath.

En effet, un belle embouteillage. En particulier le nez ! Il évolue constamment et on a plaisir à y revenir pour découvrir de nouvelles choses.

It is a good rum, but honestly it feels like chewing of a mint filled field. Not my cup of (mint) tea
