Clément 1970
Most tasters land in the same place: a gorgeous nose that the palate can't quite match. Expect tobacco, nougat, dark chocolate and dried fruit over well-integrated oak, with that unmistakable old-agricole grassiness. Several found it "very soft," almost cognac-like, but a touch thin — more than one wished for a couple more percent of ABV.
The community says- Magnificent nose
- Elegant integrated oak
- But: Thin on palate

How does Clément 1970 taste?
Summarized by AI from community reviews.
Elegant old agricole, gorgeous nose, light palate A well-preserved 21-year Clément most call complex and elegant, with a magic nose. The common gripe: it drinks light and holds back on the palate, especially at 44%.

This is a retaste and I still love it. Yesterday I got this one delivered and I just had to sample it once it was at normal temperature. The nose is typical Agricole with a lot of overripe fruits and a grassy note. There is some sugar there too. The palate is wonderful and an explosion of flavours. Again Agricole comes to mind with a lot of fruits. Slightly bitter with tobacco, smoke and oak and a hint of floral touch. The finish is medium to long, sweet with papaya and toasted oak.

Old and venerable, this rum comes across! The nose is magnificent... sweet sherry and nut aromas spread out, something dark like thin mocha, leather joins in! On the palate it is very light, soft and mild! What the nose promises, it cannot keep on the palate! It lacks some intensity! The finish is medium length and at the end something grassy appears!

Also a very appealing, mature Agricole rum with a pleasant dried fruit aroma and elegant barrel finish. Dark chocolate, roasted nuts, nougat. Relaxed to drink without getting bored.

#18th dec RumXCalendar Blind tasting: Nose: dried fruits, prunes, grass, flowery, honey, dark chocolate, mocha Mouth: dried fruits, tobacco, herbal, earthy, nougat, smoky, almond Finish: mid long, sweet caramel, woody, oak, smoky, toasted This is a nice old agricole for sure, with a great history. It was awesome to have the opportunity to taste this rum. The alcohol is integrated well. At the end i have to say, it’s good but not something special and even more the actual price tag. My prediction: This could be from J. Bally, again Martinique 🤪🤪 ca. 45% approx. 15 Years

Very fine, delicate nose. First green vegetables, mocha, chocolate, and then in the background also subtle dried currants. On the palate toasty, caramel, and here then somehow also something old, which I can not quite pin down, direction 'old chest of drawers'. In the finish rather tart, with black tea and barrel.

An old Clément from a bygone era that hasn't lost any of its superb character. The nose is very fruity and spicy despite its age, with the wood remarkably well integrated. Honeyed, tobacco, chocolate and tropical fruit aromas blend beautifully into a generous, expressive whole. Despite dilution on the palate, there's a lovely bouquet of spices, smoky and toasty notes, elegant oak, sweet notes (sugar cane), herbs, tobacco and chocolate. The finish is long but less expressive, carried by spicy flavors, black tea, mocha, toasted and woody notes. A very well-preserved rum for its age, balanced and complex. It would have been interesting to see such a rum with a higher proof.

RumX Advent 18.12.22 Also think it's an old Agricole. ABV <45%. The rum is very smooth. Has something of cognac. Wood, spicy, vanilla, sugar cane, herbal fresh, light honey, peach, yellow fruits, dried fruits, subtly smoky. The rum undoubtedly has charisma. Without knowing it, everyone in the community agreed that it was an old Agricole. I find that impressive and definitely a unique selling point for a rum when the flavor profile is so identifiable. That scores extra points. Great taste, but not top league.

Tasting with Mr. Simon Hansen 17.07.2026 RX 6146 Clément 1970. Nose: Fine fruity sweetness, licorice candies, cedarwood and stone fruit, light peach and mirabelle. Palate: Fine fruity sweetness and light cedarwood, tobacco and finely roasted caramel. Bittersweet, lightly spiced. Finish is bitter like black tea, barrel and cedarwood. The glass: Black tea and barrel. Tasting “In the garden”

RumX Advent Calendar 2022: very complex Agricole, whose typical markers are quite hidden. The barrel is in the foreground, but in a positive sense. Fruits and floral notes can still be perceived.

RumX Advent calendar 18.12.: After a while with a lid on the glass, an intense, raisin-like sherry came to the nose. This decreased over time and made some room for fine oak notes and yellow fruits. Very tasty, but for me, especially considering the price, a bit too restrained.

Tasted in the RumX Advent calendar 22 Good, but – for me – not the top Agricole from this calendar.

Trækker flotte gardiner i glasset! En god afslutning til en god fodboldkamp! 👌

After 30 minutes in the glass, I find intense walnut and grassy notes that harmonize well with roasted aromas. On the palate, it is no longer as exciting and has relatively little power/thin. The finish follows without any sensory change and is of medium length. I keep trying Agricole, but this one is only mediocre.

The nose is very round, fruity and good. On the palate then rather a bit bitter, slightly musty, spice aromas.

RumXmas 2022, #18, blind: Poured it. First impression after sniffing and a little sip: old agricole. Curious how it develops. Nutty accents in the nose, like Skeldon/Albion. Remarkable to experience this with an agricole.

Wonderful drop in the calendar fitting for the fourth Advent, an old ham uh Agricole 😄 Still quite closed on the nose, the aromas open up on the palate. Very round, fruity, nutty, intense with a nice dry finish. A pleasure.

Day 18 Rum X Advent calendar
Review by Émile Shevek
On the nose it is scented with tobacco, hazelnuts, roasting, wood, chocolate, burnt sugar and some fruit. On the palate it is tasty with tobacco, cognac, dates, flowers, grass, hazelnuts, wood and a bit of pepper. In the medium finish floral, toasted and sweet dates, in a dry and velvety frame. In the empty glass wood and dried fruit.

Pretty crazy, but unfortunately not my thing. Still thanks 🤩

RumX Advent calendar 18.12.22: Very noble, old distillate, I like it a lot. A slightly better consistency and a few more percent would have done it good, still a privilege to be able to drink rums like this.

The nose is magical with notes of very ripe fruit and anise. It's very indulgent. I love it. On the palate, it's drier than the nose suggested. You get licorice and wood. A nice little length. However, I admit that the Ti’Punch at Toucan 60% just before this little 1970 treat didn't allow it to shine more gustatively. But I will especially remember this very aromatic nose that reminded me of the old Bielle which I particularly appreciate.

Vintage 1970. With 8.4 out of 10 it’s a very good bottle, though not the top of my list.
