8.1:On the nose, the rum is light and fruity, like pears and peaches in syrup, even funky. Then, we quickly enter a more full-bodied, concentrated dimension, with encaustic, resinous vegetation, a hint of motor oil, and very ripe exotic fruits.Aeration confirms this full-bodied character, while allowing it to achieve a very nice balance. The rum becomes truly interesting and original. Its profile flirts with concentrated fruit jellies, dried fruit and pits, always with a well-dressed oily edge, buttery . Seriousness, gourmandise, fun and elegance all come together in generosity. 8:The palate opens with vegetal flavors, with green aromas such as mint and basil. Other more resinous and oily aromas complete the picture, rosemary for example. We continue our journey naturally enough, encountering a little olive oil with hints of nuts, then a green olive in brine, with its stone. 7:The finish is fruity and mature, between dried fruits and concentrated fruit pastes..

A permanent range rum with quite a bit of character. The nose lets out beautiful fresh and herbal notes that enhance the fruits, quite present in the nostrils (raisin, red fruits, banana, pineapple). The wood is slightly spicy and honeyed, offering quite a bit of sweetness. A profile not very complex but varied enough to be appreciated by enthusiasts. The palate speaks of the cognac cask with spices (pepper), dried fruits and raisins. We have a profile quite marked on molasses, caramel, candied fruits and brown sugar. Despite the sweetness, the profile remains dry, slightly toasted but rather inviting. The alcohol is well integrated. The finish pays for this sweetness with a rather short longevity. The previous markers come back overall: the cognac and dried fruits on the raisin, the dry wood, the spices (vanilla, pepper) and the sweet and caramelized side are dominant. A nice traditional rum to discover new horizons.

A quite nice agricole, can be drunk sometimes. Very fruity on the nose (red fruits), but also spicy and herbal. On the palate besides the spice a nice cask/wood influence and also lots of agricole :)

Shows pleasant notes of ripe fruits, dried fruits, caramel, and spices on the nose. On the palate, however, at 40%, it feels quite light and somewhat thin. Little depth and a rather one-dimensional profile prevent a more convincing overall impression.

A bit above the 5 years of the same range. Again, it’s mainly the nose that has interest in my opinion because the mouth is made very discreet by the reduction. It remains pleasant and quite easy to drink.

For Mai Tai historic purposes this is an extremely interesting rum. It tastes and looks like an exact description of how Trader Vic and Don would describe the “Martinique rums” of old that they would use. That meant rhum traditionnel, coffe colored (american weak diner coffee, not black italian espresso), with a distinct burnt note that is less pronounced and quicker to dissipate than demeraras. As nerds know, Negrita and St James are the only surviving martinique marques from that era and both their formulations are vastly different today from what it was back then (old negrita did not have high esther grand arome elements for example and st james went all out on agricole for consumer products). Even though this is from La Reunion it may just be a rum that has kept the style alive?
