Feels and tastes like a Planteray bottling to my palate - overly sweet and really unsure as to what Sherry cask was used… As its natural colour, it leads me to think it was either a Palo Cortado or maybe a Moscatel - it’s certainly not an Oloroso cask and if it’s a PX Cask then a LOT of the colour was lost in the dilution Nose and taste were kind of one note for me - generic sweetness although not as cloying as the 2 Dos Maderas samples I had. Adding about 10-15ml of water to this adds a much needed bitter oak note that really does help with the sweetness in the dram - I would say the water is a necessity for those who don’t love a massively sweet dram. It kind of still is but that bitter note really helps it along my plate anyways Scores a little better than the Dos Maderas samples but a little disappointed in this one - the last Bristol Spirits sample I had was a delightful Belize 2005 bottling and had high expectations that this was be similar in quality but alas was not as lucky this time round

Read full review →It doesn't have all that much in common with the Seleccion de Maestro offering either. It's quite a distinctive rum. This rum definitely offers something different and is certainly one I am pleased to have tried. A hard rum to try and pigeon hole.
