Smell: At first impression, somewhat sharp like varnish, roasted wood and only very subtly some sweetness comes through. Taste: surprisingly the roasted bitter notes come through first before I taste the sweet notes. Finish: medium, somewhat earthy, less extraordinary.

Super fruity on the nose. Grape, cherry and hints of woody red wine. Yet it still has an almost thyme-like freshness and something vanilla-sweet. In the mouth an interesting mix of Agricole and red wine. But it doesn’t really appeal to me. A bit of a shame, because on the nose besides the red wine the Engenhos as I love it is still clearly recognizable, but unfortunately not really coherent for me on the palate.

First try: OK, got impressionsof cherries, but will wait for the final verdict on the second session. 2nd Tasting: nicer overall, like a mix of Spanish and French style. It comes very fruity, I got lots of cherry, has the Spanish style middle and an Agricole finish. A nice sipper.

9th day of the Christmas calendar. Blind! First impression red wine! Later, the agricole character becomes clearer. Nose: a fruity mix of blackcurrant and sour cherry, sweet but also metallic-fresh. Besides that, the smell is also somewhat muted, a bit buttery. Reminds me clearly of dry red wine, woody at the back. Palate: initially tannins. Fruity, sour cherry, grape, some sweetness from honey. The alcohol is strong but not unpleasant. Reminds of pomace. Some spice, licorice, somewhat woody-bitter. Slightly grassy and sugarcane juice at the back.

A rum very influenced by (red) wine with lots of grape and red, sour fruits and wood. It's an Agricole, which you also notice in earthy/plant notes and the sugarcane, but the rum is comparatively mild and fruity in the mouth. Would have gotten a few more points, but the red wine on the nose and the plant notes in the finish are too dominant for my taste. You can't find a bottle anymore, but luckily still a sample! Was a top price-performance ratio.

Great entry-level rum from sugarcane juice. Exciting notes of wine, grapes and brandy, plus some roasted aromas and spices. Overall very harmonious and full-bodied, really top especially for the price!

Nice, unpretentious Agricole. For its young age, the influence of barrel aging is already noticeable, the fresh notes meet a subtle but balanced interplay of nougat, bitterness and some spicy sharpness. Heavy fruit sweetness rounds off the aroma. Successful, though I like the older Madeira rums a bit more. Maybe something from Rum Artesanal will come someday...? 😀

On the nose, plum, ripe blackberries and young wood dominate, the alcohol is subtly noticeable and reminds me of old Armagnac. On the palate, a pleasant sweetness is present at first! The rum spreads creamy, mild and light in the mouth! The alcohol is barely noticeable! I am surprised by the roasted and rather heavy aromas with a pleasant bitter tendency! Like long-drawn tea! That has something! The finish is medium-length and gently continues the impression of the palate! Very nice rum.
