Best sipped neat, this Martinique agricole from Chantal Comte tastes far older than its three years: marked oak, lime and dried fruit, black pepper, tobacco and fresh sugarcane, with a nutty dark-chocolate edge. Many tasters were surprised by that wood grip so young. At 53.5% the alcohol mostly sits well, though a few find the palate a touch sharp and the bitterness pushy.

#4998 24.12.2024 Finally back home after Christmas dinner and celebrating with family. Nose Medium intense, wood, light roasted, sugarcane, spice, fruits, light mineral, faint sour, light vegetal. Palate Balanced, round, wood, light roasted, medium intense, light tannins, fruits, medium spicy, light oily, sugarcane, light citrus, light mineral. Finish Medium to long, wood, light roasted, fruits, light citrus, spice, light spicy, sugarcane. The empty glass has light floral, light ginger and faint tobacco. Surprisingly good rum considering its age.

For a 3-year juice, you can say the wood is marked! But still with lots of indulgence and elegance. It pairs wonderfully with the freshness and spices of the cane. It's really very good.

A lively nose with brown sugar in the background, fruits, spices and lime. The wood is marked for only 3 years. A palate too lively but immediately a bit of sweetness with bitterness, a herbal and spicy side. The finish is limited but with milk chocolate, pepper and a sour milk side. A beautiful agricole rum, rich in aromas, a pity the palate is a bit aggressive and the finish a bit short.

Very fresh, lime, dried fruit. Crisp. The alcohol could be a little better integrated. Great Agricole! The right book to go with it: Fermor's "The Traveler's Tree", of course the chapter on Martinique.

For 3 years already a stable Agricole with many aromas. For the complexity and the only 3 years of storage I give 0.2 points more and round up to 8.0. Even when I taste it again, I still give it 8.0 points. Great rum.

#6 RCP Advent Calendar Wow. Blind tasting, I hated it. Didn't get this rum, maybe not open enough with a crazy bitterness that wiped everything out for me. Huge huge disappointment.

Very woody nose. Citrus. Pepper. Confirmed on the palate. Very woody for a 3-year-old. Tobacco. Chili. Finish with a slight bitterness. It's good. A bit too 'agricole' for my taste.

Nose a bit restrained compared to the palate but a very nice young rum with good length. Alcohol very well integrated considering the age. Relatively complex. Glug glug+++.

Wow. For three years, this is already very impressive. Pleasantly fresh profile, with plenty of typical nougat aromas of dark chocolate with nut aromas and elegant spicy aromas of subtle pepper, some oak and sugar cane. Excellent selection, the ageing also works perfectly, because the pleasant heaviness of the profile is excellently flanked by the still manageable cask influence, without drifting into the overly bitter spectrum. A great release.

Smells very good, it's comforting. Beautiful woodiness, sometimes a slight varnish, morello cherry, yellow peach. Impossible to say this rum is only three years old blind. On the palate, it's no longer as complex as the nose but it's good and balanced, blond tobacco but woodier and younger than expected. It's really good.

A great agricole, I was impressed by the wood influence on this juice, it really resembles an old one, only its attack betrays it. For me, it's one of the best value-for-money rums in the cane juice world, another good shot from Chantale.

Young rum but holds up well, well-marked taste of sugarcane and aromas of fruits and spices. An incredible selection by Chantal Comte, I also have samples from the La Tour de l’Or series that I need to taste soon.
