06.11.2025 Retasting while watching a Danish tv series about the police and their work. ---------- This one has a heavy nose and palate compared to the 2004, which I consider more light and delicate. Very robust and in your face compared to both 2004 and 2005. The bourbon barrels are very obvious in this version and definitely something that bourbon fans will like.

... Foursquare is a distiller from Barbados producing amazing rums for everyday drinking. It's a rum that will be appreciated especially by Rumarians who are fed up with sugar and are looking for a smooth, sweet rum full of coconut, vanilla, chocolate and caramel. Just pleasant and not aggressive flavours.

Typical Fourquare profile at a high level.Strong on caramel this time, little tropical fruit and little wood ripeness. Very nice and fine spice. Not too lush.A few drops of water do not hurt.For me one of the better FS, a good high-end sipper, but novel is something else.

Then once again a better rum with this Foursquare. Almost everything is represented here in the nose and on the palate. Here we have some wood, a slight fruitiness thanks to coconut and, in my opinion, a little too much sweetness (vanilla and caramel).

8,4:On the nose, toasted wood notes like butterscotch, nuts, leather, spicy with baking spices, fresh, grassy molasses, slightly vegetal, banana and coconut, metallic patina, some glue, bump into our nosetrils. On aeration, the molasses is herbaceous, sweet with honey, dried apricots, raisins and citrus fruits arise, vanilla, milk and white chocolate, toffee. 8,5:On the palate, the attack is round, balanced with sweet toasted oak notes like caramel, nuts, toffee, leather, burnt sugar, dark and milk chocolate, spicy with baking spices, fruity with coconut, dried apricots, raisins, citrus fruits, banana and pineapple, as the molasses is flowery, dark with black tea. 8,4:The finish is medium long, dry&tannic, with toasted oak notes, spicy, nutty, dried fruits, coconut and earthy molasses with cigar tobacco and pencil shavings. A characterful Foursquare, with a powerful, alcoholic nose marked by lively spices and a drier woodiness. Fruits (coconut, dried fruit and citrus) and notes of sugar and caramel add roundness to a rather fiery, bold profile. The attack on the palate is frank and spicy, carried by flavors of vanilla and caramel, toffee and coconut, nutmeg and chocolate, dried fruit and toast. A warm rum where the alcohol could have been a little better integrated with this strong character. The finish is drier and more astringent, with a hint of bitterness creeping in despite the deliciousness of the bourbon, coconut and caramel. Chocolate, coffee, leather and wood block out the spicy tone with a profile that's more arduous than usual. A rather taut Foursquare, with character but lacking in development and expression on the nose and palate.

Verdict: this is an easy rum, quite well made, and nothing bad. It just doesn't have the wow factor for me. It's very much whisky like. 81 points Nose: coconut milk, wood, vanilla, yellow fruit, orange, light glue, honey. Palate: sweet, oily, honeyed, woody and oak (vanilla). Plenty of orange, white tobacco, coconut. Finish: medium, sweet and slight acidic, mainly on orange and oak, just a hint of pepper, white tobacco, yellow fruit.

Compared to 2008 and 2009, this rum is on the softer side: more fruit, more toffee, less spice and leather, which still remains an essential part of the profile. The dry mouthfeel also remains rather subdued and you get a good balance of wood, chocolate, caramel, and fruit.

From the moment you open the sample, you smell vanilla and coconut, which accompany you until the finish. Wood, dried fruits, light spices, and milk chocolate come through really well on the palate. The alcohol is very well integrated. It should get half an hour to breathe though.

Woody and intense at first, but once you let it sit in the glass for 30-60 minutes it starts to open up nicely. On the nose: Vanilla, coconut, woody notes with nice banana and caramel notes. Hints of toffee on the background and some dried fruits. I absolutely love the sweetness level on this one and its Foursquare, so of course its balanced. Bourbon barrel influence is there, but this one was quite rich on the nose. Taste:Woody and vanilla notes at first. Coconut notes. Caramel notes than take the profile to a sweeter side. Then you get some dark cholate notes that take over the palate Nicely round and balanced. Finish: Very woody and dry, maybe even slightly bitter compared to taste profile. Light coconut notes at the background. Some chocolate notes. Medium finish. I really liked this one. Good level of sweetness and the palate was little bit richer than typical ex-bourbon cask rums.

Rum Club Switzerland Tasting Set. Thanks Denis for organizing. Solid Foursquare with the typical, rather dry Barbados profile. On the nose vanilla, wood, some caramel and light spices. On the palate spicy and dry with oak, some dark fruit and a fine sweetness. Not particularly spectacular, but clean and coherent. A good Foursquare that works.

Foursquare 2007 – 59% Distilled in 2007 at the Foursquare distillery (Barbados), this rum comes from a classic blend of pot still and column. After 12 years in bourbon barrels, it offers a rich and balanced profile. 🔹 Nose: aromas of caramel and vanilla. 🔹 Palate: spicy, with notes of dried fruits and a moderate presence of wood and tropical fruits. 🔹 Finish: soft and subtly sweet, with a beautiful spicy complexity. Blindtaste Foursquare A. OB Isonomy, 17y, 2005, 58% B. OB 2007, 12y, 59% C. Kill Devil 2007, 14y, 63,4% Foursquare used to be my favourite distillery, but after a while I felt that most of the releases started to taste the same, too safe, and I lost much of my passion for the distillery. In front of me I had 3 glasses. I named them A, B and C. RUM B C: Dark gold. N: A muted version of RUM A. Foursquare coconut and column fumes. 20min. Still a bit muted. More of that coconut and petrol. M: Less vibrant, less sweet and more burnt than RUM A. Again peaches and coffee. F: Long and nice. My Guess: Isonomy RUM B: OB 2007 I was wrong B: Maybe

Decent Foursquare release with the usual nosing and tasting notes like: vanilla, coconut, wood,... Nothing spectacular or interesting but as always very high quality and just tasty stuff. Comparing it to the other vintages I have tasted, the 2008 is still the champion.

My RumRatings review from 6 years ago: In the glass, the rum appears heavy and oily and leaves nice legs. The nose is very powerful. Fine fruit notes combine with spicy intense wood notes. Toasted oak and chocolate and also vanilla. The nose is very balanced, intense and varied. Over the evening it got better and better. At first it is almost sweet on the tongue with tropical fruits. This note is quickly replaced by spicy notes which are perfectly unfolded by the alcohol in the mouth. Full-bodied you can taste chocolate, roasted aromas, some tobacco and oak wood. The finish has a very short moment of sweetness. Very intense bourbon notes and a peppery wood extract accompany the finish, which lasts long and includes slight bitterness. Wow. The 2007 fully convinced me. Foursquare fully lives up to its reputation here and for 60 euros that's really a lot of rum. Very complex and full-bodied, the rum shows that it has more to offer than just bourbon. Sweetness is almost completely missing here. I liked that because it offers so many other aromas that the rum can never get boring. Simply delicious and for conscious enjoyment. My recommendation: Buy it while it's still on the market.

An interesting one. Not a patch on the 2008 but not bad, middle of the pack for me on ECS ex bourbon. A little too dry and delicate. Jose is good with vanilla, coconut and wood. Mouth layers of toffee and dark chocolate, and a hint of roasted coconut. Finish where the hair dryer comes on and all gets a bit dry, with some anise and wood. Enjoy it but not top of the list

Contrary to the consensus on the bottle by RumX, I did not enjoy this release. I have had this bottle for several years. Over the course of this period I tried this bottle on a lot of different occasions. Ultimately, the alcohol is very, very disbalanced which overshadows the rest of the flavors involved. Maybe it is just this particular bottle why it is misaligned with the general consensus, but this is just not a good bottle.
