Cadenhead's Dictador 1980
Thirty-nine years in the barrel, yet the wood barely shows — that's the surprise here. This Cadenhead's Dictador pours thick and treacly: caramel, brown sugar, coffee and a basket of raisins, with nuts and cocoa filling in behind. One taster gets an odd savoury, almost soil-like note that splits the room. At 59.9% it drinks softer and sweeter than the proof suggests.

14.12.2023 Retasting this one and it's still an amazing release. Despite the bottle being almost empty it has retained its beautiful flavour and balance. Would love one on my shelf but it's a bit expensive ☺️ ------------- This is a great rum with a long time in the barrel. Despite the age the wood is not super dominating and that makes this a very well balanced rum. The nose it lightly fruity and brown sugar with clear caramel right off the bat. After resting you get toasted wood and light coffee notes. The palate is very well balanced, oily and continues where the nose left off. Fruity with caramel in the front followed by nuts, chocolate, wonderful brown sugar and toasted wood. The finish is medium to long with spices, wood, cocoa and raisin. There is a light salty touch in the finish.

Oh my god, what is that! It tastes like if tou drink soil. Or chinese alternative medicine liquid. Or cordyceps. Sooo sweet on first taste but then comes soil, soil... you dont like to drink it once more. But I need to say that I have not drunk a rum like this one.

I just love it...over and over again. Sure, one of the sweeter candidates, almost sticky and quite pricey. But I really like what it develops with oxygen and time in the open bottle.

Caramel and nuts in aroma and taste, darker colour and shorter finish

Pretty nice old Spanish styled rum. Heavy on the caramel and coffee flavours. Probably sweetened too. But still nice.
