Best served ice-cold or built into a mojito, this Madagascan white leans hard on lemon — so much that one taster wondered if it was even rum, closer to a light limoncello. Around that citrus you get floral and rose notes, a little vanilla, and a soapy edge on the finish that some find odd. Light, thin body, a touch sweet from the molasses.

#6400 25.02.2026 Running a few more of the stack of samples I got from my friend. Listening to some new Psy Trance at the same time. Pretty OK mixer rum that can also be enjoyed as a sipper if need be. Very fresh and citrusy and a nice herbal touch with spices.

A funny white rum that wants to be as fragrant as it is puzzling. The nose isn’t very expressive but you perceive citrus (lemon), a floral and herbal side, a hint of vanilla, and a soapy note at the end which is not unpleasant. The profile is light and bets on originality (Dzama from Madagascar) but is still limited in its approach. The attack on the palate is of the same kind, quirky and intriguing but clearly flawed. The lemon and floral notes don’t manage to remove this soapy taste that bothers me terribly on the palate. The vanilla comes back surprisingly but without convincing or erasing the rest. The profile is light, thin but quite poor overall. The finish doesn’t revolutionize anything with this medicinal side and a bit drier than the rest. It’s likely that this rum pairs better in the mouth if drunk very cold, where the citrus will do their job better. A rum that has the merit of changing from classic white rums (agricole or Jamaican style) but needs to perfect its art to compete at the table of the greats.

I really asked myself: is this really rum in this sample? The lemon scent and taste are so pronounced. It's almost like a less sweet lemoncello. There's also a soapy and floral side. It's fragrant but very light to drink.
