River Antoine Rivers Royale Grenadian Rum
Hard to take neat — at 75% it's smoky, briny and "almost not drinkable" straight — but it lands as a daiquiri bomb. Think grilled overripe pineapple, sugarcane, bacon fat and a squeeze of charred lime, with that glue-and-funk pot-still edge. Several tasters swear the alcohol disappears for the strength. A wild, rustic unaged cane-juice rum people remember.
- Hugely complex
- Smoky bacon funk
- Great in daiquiri

How does River Antoine Rivers Royale Grenadian Rum taste?
Aggregated from 20 community reviews.
Wild, smoky cane-juice bomb for cocktails Most call it one of the best white rums they've had — funky, smoky, intensely cane-driven. Brutal neat at 75%, but a "absolute bomb" in a daiquiri. A few prefer the softer 69% version.

This is an intense agricole with an amazingly soft smoky note. However, this is very elegantly embedded in the overall aroma spectrum, which contains the typical herbal substances and sugar cane. A fresh hint of lime can also be detected. The finish is surprisingly long and what I also like very much is that the alcohol is perfectly integrated... 70 % is definitely not noticeable. Another Daiquiri and T-Punch in a moment...I'm curious So, it's a real grenade in the daiquiri. The lime + syrup bring out the flavors perfectly. In the T-Punch it's a little too strong and unbalanced for me

My recent visit to Rivers Antoine in Grenada was the number one moment during my recent Caribbean cruise. Rivers Antoine was founded in 1785, and still produces the rum as they did back then. The cane is crushed in a mill driven by an ancient waterwheel. It’s wild fermented and distilled in a double retort copper stills both without any temperature control. This one the 75% version is nowadays checked to be just 75% back in the days it was said it was at least 75%, cause the batches differed in strength. The nose is funky, a little pungent but much smoother than the 69% version. It’s very fruity with scents of pineapple banana and brine. At the palate and during the long finish it’s fruity, smooth, spicy, briny, oily and grassy. Overall it’s a funky rum rich on esters and congeners. It’s “dirty”, rustic, complex and powerful. It’s probably the best unaged rum out there, at least in my opinion and I’m very happy that I bought me a bottle.

Pure absolutely borderline smoky, spicy, bacony and sow intense. Almost not drinkable pure xD in daiquiri then an absolute bomb. Extremely tasty!!! Grilled overripe pineapple, bacon and lots of sugar ear and grilled lime. An absolute experience! Too bad that there is only on site!

And lastly, River Antoine. Awesome stuff. Lots of sugar cane and very vegetal. Some glue is also noticeable. Otherwise, quite funky, fresh, fermented, and pungent. Alcohol not recognizable as 75%.

#6605 05.04.2026 Enjoying this great sample while listening to a track called Survey Selva by Vermont on Spotify. At release the price tag of this bottle was the bomb. The nose is intense and fruity with banana, olive, light floral, sugarcane, citrus and light clove. The palate is intense and oily with sugarcane, citrus, clove, salt, olive and a hint of copper. The finish is extremely long and well balanced with a spicy touch, citrus, clove and light grass.

For me, this is probably the most complex unaged rum I've ever had in my glass. The mixture of sugar cane, citrus fruits, smoke, and bacon from nose to finish is reminiscent of Clairin and is really funky! You can hardly taste the alcohol!

Unbelievable that you can even drink this at 75%. Intense, smoky notes, bacon, fruity agricole notes.

What a device! A sensational agricole with fine grassy notes and the minerality of pure sugar cane, great funk and fruit aromas. Already smoky on the nose, this comes across completely on the tongue: lime from the smoker and briefly grilled for the roasted aromas, then rubbed with bacon rind and poured into rum — at the beginning, herbs and a hint of parsley flash up, a steep combination of everything! I have to try it in a daiquiri, it can only be good. The alcohol is well integrated, not particularly noticeable for the 75% ABV, and doesn't numb the teeth. Great rum! Wild, untamed, and exciting! Thanks to Thunderbird for the split!

75%??? Blind I could have taken 20 off, it is extremely round. The sweetness dominates, caught up by the freshness of the cane. The glue and a slight spiciness come to season the whole. Not the same dirty side as the 69% version. A lime in the background brings the little fruity side that the other version "lacks". It's really TOP!

This tasting won't leave you indifferent! Despite its high alcohol content, this rum is an aromatic bomb. The nose and palate are intense, the length is warm, but as the seconds pass, the cane comes out with a particularly atypical hint of smoke.

one of the best white rums in the world. it's super complex and so diffrent to other white rums.
Review by Schnubbii

I don't know how, but this is so much smoother than the 69%. Amped up flavor, nose is dialed back, yet it is somehow incredibly approachable
Review by waterglass11
Outstanding. Surprisingly much better than the 69% that we're actually allowed to take on airplanes, unfortunately. Roasty and smokey, but with that pot still funk reminiscent of a Jamaican rum.

"It will always have a certain following due to its rustic charm and high ABV. Being reasonably hard to get does it no harm either. All things considered its got a decent flavour and does a good job in mixed drinks but I think you can do better at the..."Read full review →
