"Even better than I hoped," one Danish taster wrote — and most agree this is a lovely old Hampden. Expect pineapple and passion fruit up front, overripe banana, gentle esters, a little smoke and vanilla-caramel sweetness. Several find it elegant but a touch too polite and sweet for a '92 Hampden, missing some of the distillery's usual exuberance. A few drops of water open it up.

A lovely old Hampden from the early 90s. Very well balanced. Quite sweet and pale in colour, Im assuming it would have been continentally aged. Im getting tropical fruits and some smokiness as well. Very nice.

The key data are promising. This Hampden is smoky, sweet, woody and fruity. Not particularly complex or intense. The alcohol should be better integrated. Watery on the palate. I won't be enjoying this bottling again. A disappointment for me. Second tasting: -5 pts

Wow, this one was even better and I have to see if I can get my hands on a bottle somewhere. The nose is complex with lots of fruit, varnish and smoke trailed by flower, caramel, vanilla and a bit of honey. The palate is complex with smoky wood, fruits and vanilla trailed by caramel, licorice and a hint of tea. The finish is very long with smoky wood, tropical fruits and a hint of licorice. Needs to rest and if you add a few drops of water the flavours really open up. Price to quality is very good.

High-ester meets heavy, syrupy sweetness. Overall, very balanced, full-bodied, but without reaching the complexity of some other bottlings from the early 90s. Nevertheless, a very good rum.

A nice '92 HD, as full as the SBRR (RX 1413), although a bit lower in alcohol, and the alcohol integrates better than it, without the obvious spiciness and pungency. very similar to the rest of the '92 HDs, so if don't get a chance to drink it, you can totally have another alternatives. Of course, there are the common problems of 1992: the complexity, the implicit finish, and a bit monotonous overall.

It starts off with a very mellow nose of esters, ripe fruit and wood, all present but with great finesse. It doesn't explode. Can't wait to taste. The sensation is confirmed on the elegant palate, where the woodiness wraps the fruit and esters in a delicate bitterness. It's really very fine. Superb.

I was really looking forward to this rum and I know right after pouring it that I was justified. Great aroma of overripe tropical fruits, bananas, esters, a beautiful funky affair. Very nicely balanced, sweet, smooth, funky. Too bad I probably won't be able to find a bottle anymore :-(

Tasted in the HDP 92 lineup. The nose is lively on pineapple, banana, and quite a lot of esters, however the palate shows, I have a nice indulgence on nuts, you find a toasted side from the barrel and ripe tropical fruits. The whole is very successful, I prefer the Hampden 92 from Compagnie des Indes here.

Tasting with Simon Nose: ultra-elegant, quite fresh, tropical fruit not necessarily blackberry (passion), pineapple in the background, gourmand. Taste: faithful to the nose, very fresh, elegant, with pineapple and passion fruit. Too sweet for me, lacking some of the distillery's exuberance. Still a nice rum.
