Savanna Créol 2005
A well-liked but slightly divisive old Savanna that fans keep returning to. Expect an untypical agricole: green apple and grapes, dried fruit, a waxy olive note and cinnamon that shows after 20 minutes in the glass. It drinks soft and creamy for 50.5% — the alcohol barely bites. A few tasters find the Cognac-cask wood pushes a touch far.

Interesting Savanna Creole. Along with the agricole notes, there's a great green apple direction here. Very light in taste, alcohol barely noticeable like in good agricoles. Of course, this bottling is no longer available at all, but a nice single cask before the Savanna hype started.

This was my very first Savanna rum and it was a revelation at the time. I have since tasted several Savannas, but this is still one of my favorite bottlings from the distillery. From today's perspective, it was also a bargain.

8,5:On the nose, cognac, grapes and apples, overripe yellow and red fruits, sugarcane, flowery and briny with olive, mineral, waxy, slightly herbaceous, some solvents, roasted wood notes with nuts, leather, bump into our nosetrils. On aeration, spices arise, like cinnamon, nutmeg, confectionery, fruits like banana, bitter orange and citrus, the cane becomes earthy with cigar tobacco, perhaps peat and some pencil shavings. 8,5:On the palate, the attack is tasty with roasted, spicy wood notes like gingerbread, pastry, caramel, spices like baking spices, slightly peppery, fresh with sugarcane, grassy, flowery, waxy, vegetal with briny olive, as the fruits are fermented with red, yellow fruits, bitter orange, some candied, like banana, dried fruits join, as grapes and apples. When the rum is well rested, smokiness arises, some leather, roasted nuts. 8,4:The finish is long, dry and tannic, with the notes from palate lingering on, just a bit more smoky, earthy. 04.07.2025 Retasting and I still like it a lot. ------------------ 17.08.2019 Spending a nice evening with the guys, good food and several different rums. Colour Medium dark. Nose Medium intense, light wood, varnish, light citrus, floral, light herbal. Palate Round, fresh, medium intense, light wood, light varnish, citrus, floral, faint herbal. Finish Medium long, light wood, citrus, light herbal, light solvent, light nutts. There is a faint grappa like touch to the profile.

After recently trying some other Savannas, I can better classify this one. For me, it ranks in the middle of my previous tastings. Solid and good bottling.

Great Savanna tasting with Artur. A nose of dry herbs, cedar wood, fermented vegetal, honey and a little wet dog side. The wood is present on the palate, more than usual for Savanna. Also some honeyed sweetness even though the aromas remain quite discreet. The finish is medium-long, even if the mouth persists for a long time. Too much wood for my taste even though this rum is excellent.

Very good (the good old bottles) from Savanna Agricole. This was my third Savanna at the time (2018) and I love it !

Pungent nose with solvent/resin, some ripeness/ester, flowers and citrus. Aromatic palate with ester/fermented, schnapps and a sweet floral/herbal aftertaste with a slight touch of wood/roast, but shallow and very delicate, with a medium, lingering finish.

Very tasty, full-bodied and atypical Agricole. It has a Savanna typical olive note and a wonderfully creamy mouthfeel. Compared directly to the Liberation 2012, it seems much more drinkable, full-bodied and exciting. I would almost say also more complex, but that's probably not quite true. Due to the Grand-Aromes creaminess, it just feels a bit stronger. The Liberation here has more sharpness and pepper. After 20 minutes in the glass, the cinnamon shows very nicely on the nose. I clearly prefer the Savanna.
