The nose is sweet and fresh — vanilla, apple, grass, even buttered popcorn for one taster — but the palate turns dry, spirity and grape-like, closer to a grappa or marc than a classic rum. The smell is sweetish, vanilla and honey, so for syrup-soaked vanilla pods blind I would have guessed a spiced rum from molasses here. Unfortunately, the rum (Mauricia is the agricole line from Grays) can’t keep the direction on the palate, it feels almost a bit bitter and especially sharp, I somehow don’t taste individual aromas, maybe a bit of wood. One plus point for the bottle design.

Fairly basic rum, good for starting a rum bar for a beginner. For a more experienced connoisseur, it could be criticized for lacking complexity and depth. Suitable as a digestif in a convivial meal.

A smooth, light rum in the relaxed style of its native island. The nose is fresh, with herbs and apple, strongly influenced by calvados and grapes. The spices and wood are subtle, in keeping with the spirit of this airy, docile profile. It's a little different from what we're used to, without revolutionizing the genre. On the palate, there's a nice mix of apple, calvados, fruit brandy and more acidic citrus notes. The profile is also more agricultural and vegetal. Spices, caramel and oak behind, dominated by the fruity, alcoholic side. The profile remains light on the palate, but impregnates the mouth with its alcohol, even if this remains correct for its relatively low degree. The finish remains in the same tone as the palate: drier, fresher, woody, vegetal and agricultural, with that note of fruit alcohol that stands out on grapes and citrus fruit. The profile becomes a little harsher with spice and wood. A rum that has the merit of changing established standards, but remains too basic to reach the next level.

Tasted at Rhum Fest Paris, partial notes. It's not really crazy, too much vanilla and caramel, it's rather flat and boring. Too bad.

Sweet smell with hints of vanilla, grapes, and citrus. The first sip is sharp, with a light tobacco note on the tongue. It starts off a bit bitter but becomes sweeter over time. As the rum lingers, you can taste some dried fruit. A smooth and pleasant sip with a short finish.

A very agricoly rum. Spirity like a Grappa or a Marc de Bourgogne. Grape based spirit. Light and fresh. More oak in the nose than in taste. It's very different from the New Grove old tradition 3y (Which is way thicker). Nothing really fancy but well made and a great daily sipper.

The Rhum Mauricia Héritage is produced by the Grays distillery in Mauritius. It's a pleasant rum with notes of chocolate. The balance is decent, but it lacks a bit of complexity.

The nose for me is like smelling a fresh bucket of buttery movie theater popcorn. The palate is kind of vegetal and earthy, with a lightly oily mouthfeel. On the finish I get grapes.

The smell of this rum reminds me fresh grass and lemongrass. The taste is very extensive, I could distinguish fresh pineapple, mango and passion fruit. Aftertaste is very dry and woody. I am not sure if I should rate it 6 or 7. I will keep 6.5, but this rum is not bad! It has 45% of alcohol. To be honest, cask strength variant of this rum could be marvelous!

Read full review ›I didn't know this rum at all, but I generally really like rums from Mauritius. The bottle is really beautiful, the nose surprised me a lot with its strength and intensity, the palate calmed down a bit and so it is a very pleasant agricole rum, which is quite smooth and not too sweet.
