Tasting the Caronis Velier 1985. A dark, sweet, bitter and fresh nose. Burnt caramel and herbal notes (mint in particular) round out the nose. The attack is silky on the palate, while bringing an explosion of aromas. It's all there: depth, complexity, freshness and perfectly integrated wood. Baked fruit on the finish, with baked apple and banana. A caramel and vegetal finish, with fruit perceptible to the very end. A mechanical workshop dominates the empty glass. A splendid rum despite its slightly low ABV.

... Caroni is a distillery from Trinidad, producing rum at the height of its fame, which was added in a ratio of 1:10 to naval blends. It was too strong and strange to be pleasant on the tongue. In 2000 the distillery ended production and was closed. Only in 2010 did tasters appear who liked the rum precisely for its special taste. And interest grew. Caroni belongs to the category of rums "you need to try before you die." I recommend it, Caroni is really a unique rum.

Epic Velier Caroni Tasting 2023: Very pleasing profile, which on one hand has typical LTR pleasant wood notes and sweetness, but on the other hand also pays reference to the HTR style with tar and herbaceous astringent cask and spice hints on the palate and finish. A drinkable Caroni, but lacking the last bit of complexity.
