Not the grassy agricole you might expect from Guadeloupe — the wood and spice run the show here, with red fruit up front. Raspberry and berries on the nose, then dry oak, menthol and a roasted, tobacco-and-coffee finish. One taster even said it reminded them of whisky. Rounded and well put together, though a couple of members found the palate thinner than the lovely nose.

Absolutely amazing how intense it is with its 46% ABV. On the nose red fruits, tobacco, vanilla, and lacquer/solvent. On the palate cherry wood, tobacco, mocha, and rubber. The last time I was so positively surprised by a '46er' was with the CdI Kaiman!

Longly anticipated, finally got Gardel in the glass today. This one is consistently dry. On the nose, the wood quickly gives way to strong floral and red fruit notes (I rather get raspberry here). A great start. This is exactly how the pastry for afternoon coffee should smell. On the palate, it turns more blackberry-like, with a bit of medicine. We have menthol, and the alcohol comes through a bit stronger. The finish is dominated by roasted and woody notes. There's also a bit of tobacco. Great profile! Just could be a bit more intense.

06.09.2005 had a meeting with friends and we brought bottles to try out. The Jin Mao Tower in Shanghai is a beautiful building bustling with life all day long. A must see and visit when in Shanghai. Notes. Medium dark colour. Nose: fresh, wood, berries, raisin, nutts. Palate: round, wood, raisin, iodine, mint, dry, anise. Finish: medium to long, wood, roasted, anise, coffee, dried fruit.

Gives a rounded impression. On the nose, red fruits and spices dominate. On the palate, an initial sweetness of honey/sugar. Followed by vegetal aromas, pepper and tannins.

Very tasty and accessible Gardel. A very nice sweetness without seeming unnatural. I like it very much!

First time ever tasting a Gardel, so I can't compare it to other bottlings. I find it different from what I'm used to with agricole so far. There are definitely vegetal elements present, but the spicy and woody notes are much more dominant. Strangely, it reminds me a bit of whisky. It's very round and forms a nice whole, as if everything is just in its right place.
