A rum with obvious notes of coffee, vanilla and a hint of apricot. Quite sweet despite the high alcohol content. The finish is long and smooth.

The Ron Esclavo Gran Reserva Overproof is a powerful sweet-tooth rum with plenty of kick: vanilla, chocolate-mango, and coffee meet caramel, maple syrup, and pecan nuts. The 57.5% ABV is noticeable but surprisingly well balanced by the pronounced sweetness. I especially like the interplay of creamy chocolate, roasted aromas, and strong barrel spice. Not a delicate rum – but full-bodied, warm, and dangerously easy to drink.

Read full review →Rums from the Dominican Republic are less sought after by me compared to destinations like Jamaica, Barbados, Guyana, etc. I'm not saying they don't have good rums, I just simply prefer slightly different flavor profiles. I like stronger tastes and aromas, higher alcohol %, and not too much sweetness.
