Samaroli DDL Demerara Dark 1994
Most tasters land on the same verdict: a dark, old-school Demerara that's lovely once it opens up, held back only by its gentle strength. Give it 15-20 minutes and you get varnished old wood, leather, prunes, licorice and a whiff of overripe banana, with a dry, earthy, spiced palate. Several wished it were bottled stronger; a couple found it a touch thin and dull.

A rum tasted at the German Rum Festival in 2024. A dark, very Demerara nose, with varnished old wood, leather, prunes, spices and overripe banana. The palate resembles the nose, even darker and denser, with a lovely vegetal bitterness on the finish that balances and gives a kind of freshness to this rum that seems to be from another time. The dilution here is perfect, undoubtedly softening a rum that would have been more extreme brut de fût.

Tasted at German Rum Festival Flavor profile seemed off. Did not expect this taste sensation, disappointed.

Intense in the nose despite reduction. More lively and less wood/leather forwards than older bottlings. More complex and more elegant compared to the recent-ish 2006 REV bottlings. A bit thin on the palate, yet intense. Similar to the nose: more lively and less dry than your recent 94 bottlings. This is very nice indeed.

little dark, steady with slightly dull. good low-abv Demerara, although it could be higher. I prefer those stronger because the features come out better, but it's still worth sipping and appreciating.

This is a lovely Samaroli once it has rested for 15-20 minutes. I would have loved a higher ABV because I think it would have blown it out there. The nose is fruity with molasses, leather, licorice and wood. The palate is warm and dry with fruits and lovely earthy notes as well as spices, licorice and oak. The finish is medium to long and dry with wood, dried fruit and spices.
