Overall a great rum with a fantastic nose as well as a fantastic finish that I got a sample of from my youngest son a month ago. It’s a blend of rum from the Clarendon Distillery selected by Velier and E&A Sheer from casks with rum distilled 2002, 2004 and 2006. It’s bottled 2020 which gives it’s 14 years old. It’s a pot still destilled rum, tropical aged on site in Jamaica with an ester level of 324.5 gr/hlap which gives that it’s a “Plummer" (EMB) category of the distillery. The nose is complex, smooth, round, fruity, oaky and nutty. At the palate it’s still complex and you can feel the ABV. After a while and during the long finish you recognize the esters, the fruitiness and all the other aromas as tastes.

I have mixed feelings about this review. I like strong and technical rums and this one is great. It is strong, without unnecessary sweetness, wonderfully long and warm. The problem for me is the price. For €50 I have TRCL Jamaica 2016 and I get almost the same as with this rum. Anyway, it's a great rum and technical rum lovers must try it. In comparison, one was tropical aged and the other continental aged. To begin with, neither really grabbed me. The color difference was very clear, the tropical much darker and somewhat better in taste.

06.03.2020 Met up with some colleagues to give a tasting at this old iconic place. Notes. Medium dark colour. Nose Wood, round, complex, fruity, pineapple, glue, light mint. Palate Oily, wood, spicy, light tar, mint, ester, fruity, banana. Finish Very long and warm, wood, light mint, fruits.

EMB 14 direct comparison: Much more mature on the nose. The esters are clearly noticeable. Very fruity, lacquer/glue, and less floral in direct comparison. On the palate, strong, intense, spicy and fruity, then the peppery alcoholic notes take over. The finish is shorter and very peppery.

Tasting date 14.08.2026 2 th. Together with Mr. D Jungberg & Mr. S Nørregaard RX 662 EMB Plummer tropical. Nose: Woody, chemical glue. Vanilla and caramel, dried fruit. Mouth: Unpleasant bitter and dry, nasty olives. Residual taste: Dried fruits, oily caramel and vanilla. Light minty wood. Warm and slowly balancing. Spices, light smoke, bacon hints. Roasted dry finish, quite nice at the end, with burnt sugar and butter. The glass: Light sweet wooden cask. 2 cl. samples or less is not recommended for proper experience for this bottling. Says to me purely from the nose more like his continental brother. However, taste and finish of my assessment clearly more bitter and woody.Therefore, both on par and definitely not worth their money.

8,3:On the nose, glue, solvents and rubber, varnish, slightly alcoholic, toasted wood, a bit smoky, with marzipan, spicy, citrus fruits, tropical with banana, pineapple, mango, kiwi, maracuja, flowery(elderflower), grassy molasses, bump into our nosetrils. On aeration, the molasses is vegetal, sweet with honey, red fruits arise, caramel and confectionery, vanilla, quite strong camphor. 7,8:On the palate, the attack is intense, dry, medicinal with rubber, varnish, the wood is roasted with caramel, brioche, pastry, salty, spicy with pepper, the molasses is grassy, fresh with tea, sweet honey, dark with licorice, later vegetal, the fruits are fermented, tropical, red.Again, we find some camphor, plastic hints, when the rum is oxidized. 8,2:The finish is more balanced, dry&tannic, as roasted wood notes, spicy and smoky, pair vegetal molasses, fermented fruits like tropical, yellow.

Tungen på eventyr 🥃 : smager jeg en anderledes rom end den dufter. Den er bitter. Den er tør. Den er en smule sprittet & den brænder i svælget. Halen på historien💫 : Jeg havde regnet med en frugt bombe, men fik det ikke. Gummi, opløsningsmidler & træ noter dominerer for her.

EMB X-Tasting by Velier & Scheer: much darker than the continental and even the nose wouldn't remind you of the same base product. The mark is clearly recognizable here with tropical fruits and menthol, as well as leather and some dirty aromas. Much better than the continental. It would have been interesting to let both age longer. The tropical aged one could have been really awesome :)

Here the clear winner of this comparison. Although I also clearly prefer the nose here. It is powerful with candied tropical fruits, winter spices, glue and wood. The palate is again very alcoholic, with lots of wood, peppery, sharp-edged and bitter. Conclusion: good comparison, but quite disappointing regarding quality, both too alcoholic and not worth the money.

Direct comparison of the two EMBs from Velier & Scheer. Neither of the rums are the strongest, but they demonstrate the difference between continental and tropical storage very well. The continental one is fruity with yellow fruit, sweet, floral and more delicate. The tropically matured one is more spicy, woody with fermented fruit and tannins. It's no secret that my preference is always for the tropically matured version. Even if this one is not the best.

Not only the color differs significantly here compared to the continental matured version. Even if the alcohol is still disturbing here, the tropical fruits clearly unfold in the smell and taste. In the finish, bitterness and bacon fight against each other, which makes the rum at the end somewhat exhausting because it does not harmonize so properly on the palate.

You have to drink it with caution. The almost 70% alc. have quite a bit of bang. In the finish nice woody and dirty. I'm missing a little support from fruit sweetness in the finish. Otherwise, this is a really good Monymusk for the PRICE.

This comparison project is great for me, and at the same time very interesting which versions my various friends prefer. I'm in the “tropical” camp, where that heap of wood on the nose and in the mouth just fits me perfectly.

I love high hogo rums. But this one is just a little too boring and too sharp. I love the mushroomlike flavour which is supported by honeycomb notes and ethyl acetate flavours. It is all right but not for this money

Pleasant, nutty, vanilla-woody nose, spicy, a bit of pineapple and mango. On the palate woody, roasted aroma, some mango but also too much alcohol.

Difficult rum that requires a trained palate and time in the glass to open up well, at least 30 minutes. Left to breathe, all the quality of the distillate emerges. Great rum

Nose: Typical ester notes including lacquer and rubber as well as subtle tropical fruits. The honey sweetness, however, cannot disguise the alcoholic sharpness. Palate: Short fruity start, followed by the ester aromas including the lacquer. Then it gets uncomfortable due to alcoholic sharpness and long-lasting pepper appearance. Finish: bitter and peppery. Conclusion: Incredible presence on the palate. That's what I call full-bodied. For me, however, too harsh and peppery. So plenty of edges and corners. Better than the continental brother, but far from pleasing me.

as if you would chew with fishermen's friend in the mouth on completely burnt nutmeg overloaded mashed potatoes and then suck on the leather chair and then on the bicycle hose.... goes me not at all purely...in addition just extremely sharp and alcoholic and penetrating...the whole series of this experiment is for me an absolute failure. have to cough at every single despite >1h breathe due to the Poorly integrated alcohol and the face contorted 😣
