Clarendon Plantation Jamaica 2000 MBK Borderies Finish XO MBK

One member calls it one of their favourite "light" Jamaicans, and that fits: a 19-year Clarendon pot still with a fruit-basket nose of mango, passion fruit and lychee, then a peppery, more wood-and-tobacco palate. Several tasters note a tannic bitterness from the Borderies cognac finish. Give it 30 minutes of air and the banana and coconut come forward.

The community says
  • Fruit-basket nose
  • Elegant, long finish
  • But: Woody bitterness

Solid rum, nose and palate with nice fruity notes, finish is rather dry, barrel-heavy and slightly bitter. This is the second or third step on the 10 steps of Jamaica Funk ;-)Price / performance excellent!

Nose super fruity, it gives desire to enter in. The mouth is too powerful, I find the alcohol not integrated enough with an unpleasant woody bitterness, we find the fruits of the nose but in the background. Too bad the nose was selling a dream

Unlike the pre-sample tasted this summer, which won me over with its devastating fruitiness, this one needs a good 30 minutes of aeration, as it's clearly more woody and less markedly fruity (mango-passion-fruit). But once this woodiness has been tamed, we're treated to the usual Jamaican banana, and here blood orange. On the palate, it's lively, very intense, spicy-peppery but well-balanced. This is an elegant rum, with a long finish and hints of coconut and floral notes.

Nothing groundbreaking, but OK. Some esters, wood, tobacco and some tropical fruit.

Expert review by Le Blog À Roger

Nose Pwaaaa that smells really good! Mango, passion fruit, lychee and some woody notes with dried fruit and blond tobacco. This nose is hyper-perfumed, in jamaique/cognac fruity mode. I really like it, it's superb. Mouth Just as good, a real concentrate of fruit with pineapple, banana and mango, all in explosive mode. The oak is present but delicate, with dried fruit again, chocolate and a few spices. There's plenty of pep, greed, fruit, a light woodiness and incredible balance...
