One taster called it "an instant classic" for the nose alone — brown caramel, a punch of petrol, ripe yellow banana and cola. On the palate it starts soft and sweet, then the dirty, tarry, leather side builds through the middle. The recurring gripe: at 52% several felt it wants a few more percent, with a slightly bitter, dilute finish.

1994 Velier Caronis are simply a case of their own, extremely dirty and intense. Lots of menthol compared to other vintages. I like younger bottlings, like this one, better. They seem rounder. However, this bottling lacks a few more turns for a better rating, and the finish is a little bitter.

Nicely balanced Caroni. A bit “perfumed” in the flavor profile. Lovely but not amongst the best I’ve tasted so far. 31/10/24 Dirty element in the profile dominates. In direct comparison to RX1670 the lesser one of the two.

Rather balanced Caroni with a great nose that has lots of fruit, caramel, nice roasted notes and (by tropical Caroni standards) rather restrained wood maturation with nice oak notes and relatively little bitterness/menthol notes. Dirt is there, but the fruit has good space. I really like the nose but a few more percent on the palate could definitely help.

Yes, that's a typical Caroni, I love this flavor profile so much. It's also a typical dirty one, lots of tar and leather are recognizable here. This Caroni was a very tasty rum.

The bottle of Caronis alone makes quite an impression. The 52℅ makes it noticeably lighter than some of its brothers. Nevertheless, all the classic Caroni aromas come to the fore. The long tropical ageing is also clearly noticeable here. It just slurps itself away, you really have to be careful.

I find the nose to be classic Caroni, dark berries and a hint of tar and gas station, which is a good start. The palate is surprisingly light and a little sweet at first, then the tarry note comes through, paired with some blackberry and violet, then heavy flavors of mocha, dark chocolate and licorice develop. The whole thing is quite complex! The finish is of medium length and continues with the spices. A great but not outstanding Caroni

26.01.2013 Had a nice meet up with other nerds at this old hotel. Afterwards some played at the Casino. Notes Very dark in colour. Nose Complex, wood, medium roasted, rubber, tar, cherry, light smoke, anise. Palate Oily, wood, roasted, tannins, tar, light rubber, faint smoke, cherry, balanced, complex. Finish Medium to long, wood, roasted, anise, light rubber, faint tar.

9,1:On the nose, industrial, medicinal with tar and rubber, solvents, varnish, intense, fruity with tropical fruits like banana and mango, citrus, slightly fermented, buttery, sweet toasted oak with caramel, chocolate, roasted nuts, vanilla, oily, bump into our nosetrils. .. Caroni is a distillery from Trinidad, producing at its peak a rum that was added in a 1:10 ratio to the naval blend. It was too strong and strange to be pleasant on the tongue. In 2000 the distillery ended production and was closed. Only in 2010 did tasters appear who liked the rum precisely for its special taste. And interest grew. Caroni belongs to the category of rums "you need to try before you die". I recommend it, Caroni is really a unique rum.

Epic Velier Caroni Tasting 2023: Appealing aromatics on the nose, but on the palate the rum has to pay some tribute to dilution. The final punch is missing. Nevertheless, very good Caroni.

For the 600th tasting note, something from the stash. A sweet-heavy rum with dense, oily texture. Aromas of oak, dark chocolate, polish, syrupy heaviness. The tropical maturity is par excellence. Despite the dryness, everything is wonderfully integrated here. Workshop notes from Caroni come through. Mechanical, smoky, a bit metallic. Also cassis is there, menthol and eucalyptus appear more secondarily and on the finish. The finish: wonderfully long, dirty, oily. Tropical fruits in breadth and fullness round it off. I like it very much, for me significantly better than the 36th. The lower volume fits me absolutely. Good balanced balance.

Dirty, fruity and lots of menthol. It is followed by a wonderful varnish polish note. Caroni upper league on the nose. Very similar also to the Guyana Stock 23ys and equally good.In the mouth the same score, the 52% is just enough, thereby it would also be quaffable.😄 Oak now comes more to the fore.Great Caroni in an iconic bottle.

Very impressive Caroni. The nose has more woody and spicy influences. The typically dirty notes only really come to the fore in the mouth. The Caroni is an absolute stunner in the mouth, showing its excellent quality here. Great finish.

Due to dilution to 52%, this Caroni feels a bit light, which does not harm the great flavor profile. Lots of dirty notes, plus menthol and nice fruit aromas. Despite dilution, the finish is extremely long.

The nose isn't very intense: banana, oily tool, buttery, some smoke, herbs. The palate pleases me a lot: buttery, oily tool, black tea with herbs, mint, young-green banana, some roasted wood, very nice mouthfeel, medium-long finish, alcohol very well integrated.

Despite the relatively low alcohol, there is a sharp, slightly smoky note. A pity, otherwise it has everything for a top Caroni. Nice dirt, a bit of sweetness, light red fruit.

Svincany Caroni tasting 19.12.2024 perfect nose, dirt, tar, lots of nice elements from grandpa's garage. On the palate, despite lower ABV, very strong flavor expression, full of expected tones promised by the aroma. Long, intense and pleasant finish.

This rum has a classic profile we all know from a 1994 Caroni. It has all the qualities that come together but without standing out. I think the rather low ABV does not help though. Definitely not a surprise but a good spirit overall.

not the most heavy Caroni, more on the lighter side. But a lot of fruits and a nice freshness. Very herbal on the nose and not a typical Caroni profile. An example for the variety of profiles that have been distilled at this famous distillery. A petty that it’s gone forever.

Nose: very present Caroni marker, without being dirty in hydrocarbons, super fruity, a bit of mango compote, strawberry? Nice freshness, not at all alcoholic. Palate: The fruits are relatively well integrated with the empyreumatic. The downside is the quite present astringency. Slight disappointment between nose and palate. But still very good.

As a 'beginner' putting a Caroni in front of me is quite a wild experience but it doesn't blow me away. Rather the fruity / not to be confused with sweet but still distinctive note is missing.
