8,8:On the nose, the first notes are dried fruits, then out of nowhere arise tropical fruits with passion fruit leading the gang. It is very round, nicely perfumed... Nuttiness is around later, when aired, with some medicinal notes, menthol, grapes/sweet wine, sherry notes, becomes spicy, roasted, there are bbq notes, dry. Agricole notes with some smokiness are here now, with leathery/tobacco after well rested. 8,6:On the palate, we cannot miss agricole, as the sugar cane is waxy, herbal, volcanique pedigree and spiciness that we are hold on, dried fruits, banana come out of this first agricole/spicy cloudy skies, are juicy with nice grapes and red fruits,as currants, berries.They are sweet like very fine sweet wine. Roasted wood comes by to say hello with smokiness and some drieness, bitterness, there is some menthol and orange peel and is still very round. Tropical fruits are here, but a bit hidden. Well confectionery has been waiting till the end to show up and nougat! 9:The finish is very long, woody, as sugar cane is juicy, mineral, waxy, a bit sweet, as this agricole notes stay, fruity with berries. It becomes creamy, buttery and toasted with tropical/dried fruits, with minimal dryness, as there is some menthol, clove...

The 1998 Bellevue from Blackadder has matured for three years longer than the 14-year-old bottling from Cadenhead. More wood comes through here. Especially the finish is pleasant with slightly bitter woody notes. Otherwise the usual 98 Bellevue quality.

The 98 batch from Bellevue has always pleased me quite a bit so far. This one meets everything I expected. It's just a great vintage. Although, from what I remember, this one has a bit more wood flavor than the others I've tried. Subjective impression.

It takes its time in the glass. Nose: Apricot, raspberry, blackberry, leather, chocolate, honey, still a bit sharp Palate: Red and black berries, raspberry somewhat dominant, milk chocolate, vanilla from the wood which increasingly pushes forward and then is replaced again by the raspberries. Unfortunately, the sharpness is also slightly present on the palate. All in all, a good sip.

While everyone calls these Damoiseau 1998 rums "Bellevue," Blackadder went with "Belvedere." Kind of strange! A nice nose of dried fruits, a pleasant attack on the palate, and especially a superb sweet finish with tropical fruits. It's probably one of the best rums in the Damoiseau 1998 batch. Unless the Rum Mercenary version, from our tasting on 03/07, steals the show?
