Here's the twist: the nose smells sweet — raisins, dried fruit, candied banana — but the palate isn't sweet at all. It turns woody and spiced, with toasted oak, nutmeg and bourbon-barrel warmth over fresh, grassy cane. Several tasters call it surprisingly fresh from start to finish. A heavily oaked agricole that still keeps its cane character.

One of the perks of being married to a Japanese is that once in a while she brings home exciting rums. This is one of them and it's a great one. Very fruity with oak and spice. Very smooth on the palate and a wonderful finish. There is something surprisingly fresh from nose to finish.

The soft grass flavor is spot on. The aroma is buttery and cheesy, but the flavor is spot on. It's really good.
