Roasted, dark and oily, this Diamond leans into burnt Demerara sugar, mocha, dark chocolate and a pile of dried fruit — prunes, raisins, apricot. Several tasters call it a surprisingly "easy sipping Diamond" despite the 52.5% and 18 years in wood. A couple note the body runs a touch thin and there's real oak bitterness on the finish. One of the drier, more roasty Guyana bottlings.

8,6:On the nose, the first impression we get is an intense sherry, as we notice dried fruits like buttery prunes, dried dates, perhaps cherry. Then it quickly turns into roasted, spicy wood with coffee, caramel, vanilla and nuts, as the molasses is dark, vegetal with tobacco and parsley. We think the rum is creamy, round and balanced. 8,6:On the palate, the attack is thick and heavy with sherry notes and dark molasses, charred, roasted wood. We find dried fruits, delicious mocha, the rum is dry, molasses brings bitter vegetal herbaceous notes and eucalyptus, the wood is resinous and peppery, put all together, we might think we taste soy sauce or umami. After some rest, it brightens a bit, with caramelized nutty notes, dried apricots and still syrupy licorice. Well round and balanced, but nothing more... 8,4:The finish is long, as all the palate notes linger on with Demerara sugar as an addition..

The nose is dominated by malt, pencil shavings and wood. Coffee and dried fruit in the background. Very similar on the palate and overall a little more on the bitter, dry side. A little too thin overall. Edit: I liked it a lot more at the last tasting, so I've given it a few more points.

After a longer break, I'm treating myself to two nice V&M Guyana today. Starting with the 18yo Diamond. Nose: This is why I love Demerara rum. Beautiful, full woody-spicy-roasty aromas. Along with dark fruits: blackberry, dried plum, dried currant, and dried apricot as well as blood orange. I also find a pleasant tobacco-chocolate mix, slightly caramelized and accompanied by dark, roasty aromas. There's a slight hint of mint, vanilla, and black pepper. 8.8 Palate: Whoa, quite woody and roasty. Also bitter, but not unpleasant. First comes nutmeg and mocha, malty and almost a bit burnt. Then the finer aromas of sour-licorice molasses, cola, and toffee, with a bit of yeast. At the back, chocolate, vanilla, and raisin again. 8.6 Finish: The molasses with raisin remains present. Really like it. Great balance between molasses, wood, and caramel-chocolate.

I have had a short break from tasting because I felt like 2-3 days a week with tasting was a bit over the top. Back in shape again and we had a wonderful evening yesterday. This was the last one and what a rum. Nice and fruity from nose to finish. Spicy on the palate with a light dryness to it.

A great diamond but it tastes as if they have been a bit too generous with the colouring. This could have been a real high flyer but there is a thick bitterness encompassing all other aromas. Nevertheless, really worth seeking out a sample…or a bottle.

pretty good and pleasing Skeldon / SWR. Prune, tobacco, caramel on the nose. On the palate more towards raisin and cappuccino. On a similar high level as the S.B.S 2001 Skeldon bottlings.

A very interesting Diamond. Very woody in the nose, also chocolate and tobacco detectable. In the taste, even some fruits can be tasted. Overall a very delicious rum, highly recommended. Cheers.

Difficult rating. I fluctuate between 8.3 on some days and 8.8 on others. So let's take something in the middle 😁 Nice "oily" heavy nose. Wood, caramel, chocolate, vanilla. On the palate as expected. Roasty, dark, heavy (though somewhat thin). Cocoa, caramel. Mocha at the back.

Dug out for my annual pension tasting in the 'Samplesorium' and found this gem. Guyana rum as it should be. Candied dried fruits, great spice, fine wood, dark and heavy on the nose. Actually more for winter than 35° in the shade, but for a sample it doesn't matter.😀 A rum to smell forever. But also a pleasure on the palate. Feels a bit thin although quite oily on the tongue. Sweet, malty, spicy with some pencil shavings, nice wood, bitter chocolate, and dried fruits. The finish is sweetly dry and flows smoothly from the palate. Really good Diamond. 👍🏻

Not a rum I have often in the glass, but when it is, one that always amazes me and somehow I find it awesome. Simply something completely different from what I usually know. The viscosity is insane, the rum literally clings to the glass. Pronounced dry fruitiness, licorice, heather honey, malt, toasted barrel, herbs. On the palate a creamy honey sweetness, very pleasant with licorice, herbs, barrel, slight bitterness... Basically almost exactly what you get on the nose, just a bit rounder and more pleasant. Very nice, but also very special.
