How does Valinch & Mallet Diamond Single Cask 2001 taste?

Aggregated from 45 community reviews.

Dry, dark, roasted Demerara power For experienced palates: an 18-year Diamond Savalle still demerara that rewards slow sipping. Expect dark chocolate, coffee, roasted wood, dried apricot/plum and molasses with a dry, slightly bitter edge. Highly praised by Demerara fans on RumX.

Perfect for

Demerara lovers wanting a dry, roasted, sherry‑leaning single cask with coffee, dark chocolate and dried-fruit depth at a manageable but serious ABV.

Less suitable for

Those who prefer sweet, soft rums or are sensitive to bitterness and oak-driven dryness; beginners may find it too dry and wood-heavy.

I have had a short break from tasting because I felt like 2-3 days a week with tasting was a bit over the top. Back in shape again and we had a wonderful evening yesterday. This was the last one and what a rum. Nice and fruity from nose to finish. Spicy on the palate with a light dryness to it.

A great diamond but it tastes as if they have been a bit too generous with the colouring. This could have been a real high flyer but there is a thick bitterness encompassing all other aromas. Nevertheless, really worth seeking out a sample…or a bottle.

Sehr schöner kräftig dunkler schokoladig fruchtiger REV, gefällt mir auf Anhieb. Milder Genuss mit voller Power, leider hab ich nur ein sample, muss mal schauen ob ich eine Flasche davon auftreiben kann.

pretty good and pleasing Skeldon / SWR. Prune, tobacco, caramel on the nose. On the palate more towards raisin and cappuccino. On a similar high level as the S.B.S 2001 Skeldon bottlings.
