Made for drinkers who chase sharp, angular Jamaicans over sweet ones. This 13-year Clarendon (Monymusk) pot still is hot and metallic, with grapefruit and lemon up front, dry wood and pepper behind, plus a "touch of varnish" and a surprise honey note on the finish. The ester funk is milder than a full-on Jamaican. Several found it too bitter and boozy; others liked the edge.

A good Monymusk that you don't have to think twice about whether it comes from Jamaica. Very sharp, so only small sips are enjoyable. Offers a nice umami note and at the same time reminds a bit of the plastic from Fiji. Exciting, but so far the other distilleries from Jamaica convince me more.

A really very direct, edgy rum that wants to be drunk consciously. But actually, I'm quite satisfied in terms of price/performance. Nicely spicy with typical lacquer and fermented aromas. A bit more funk and fruit could help. At the back, a bit too medicinal and metallic. Not an easy rum... but I like it. Edit 2026: I have to admit it tastes a bit less good every time. It's just too flat and unripe. Too medicinal and alcoholic. Also doesn't age particularly well. Bottle still alive. Not usable even in Coke...

Not too bad a rum and the Jamaican funk is there though not as powerful as a pure Jamaican. Warm to the palate and fruity with a touch of barrel. Lightly bitter but the fruits makes up for it.

I'm actually not a fan of the younger Monymusks. But I like this one very much! Nice complexity, not too bitter, an elegant light sweetness.

This is not an exceptional MM, but definitely suitable as a warm-up. Especially here the interplay of citrus fruits and woody spices fits perfectly. The alcohol is not quite well integrated and noticeable, which spoils the enjoyment a bit. Overall it is okay.

12th day in the Christmas calendar. Blind! Not typical Jamaica, but typical young and especially continentally aged Monymusk with high ABV! Nose: metallic-fresh and somewhat biting but also spicy-fruity. More lemony-bitter-tart, like grapefruit and red currant. Honey, some almond and very light esters. Nutmeg, a hint of vanilla, pepper and dry wood in the back. Palate: bitter! Lime and grapefruit. Almost sharp with pepper. Towards the end even some umami and soapy as well as resinous and earthy. Not my thing. Strongly reminds me of the continental Scheer/Velier...

On the nose a solid, typical Clarendon. On the tongue similarly at first, then it quickly turns into sharp eucalyptus followed by a bitter off-note. Long finish - unfortunately. Alcohol is poorly integrated.

Appealing on the nose. Very edgy in taste but definitely my thing. Definitely with character. However, also a bit of solvent in the aftertaste and quite alcoholic. Maybe not everyone's cup of tea but definitely worth an experience.

Bites quite strongly in the nose at first. Becomes milder after a long rest, smells of grapefruit and varnish emerge. In the mouth initially dirty metallic, again varnish but also citrus fruits. In the finish then a wonderful honey note appears that I did not expect before.
